veneers

I was up at the Uke Republic Sat. and was looking at a really nice Uke(can't remember which one) and it had a veneer peghead overlay....thin. Is this common on highend Ukes I always use 1/16-3/32" solid material that I have worked down.

High end builders make up their own rules.

I usually just use the scrap from the back for head plate overlays. I thin them down to around 0.05 - 0.06" for ukes.

Using a veneer would be fine I guess. But, even though it makes absolutely no difference in the instrument....you'd just know it was there.

I have a cheap Laminate chinese and after 3 1/2 years it started started to separate and crack from the edges in under the finish....I know that was not there before...oh well
