i have a soprano and im wondering if its bad to keep it tuned a step up

I wouldn't think so. Although the tension is obviously higher, people have been playing ADF#B for a century, and keeping them tuned that way for long periods (I assume). I think it's still within the safe range.

In some parts of the world ADF#B is considered standard tuning, so I think the builders must take this into account.

I agree BIGDB, keep your sop tuned up to D and buy another one to use in C tuning...he he...there are ways around these things!!!!
