First refinishing project: I've just removed a real nasty shellac from an old uke. I'm was just thumbing through some ideas for a new finish and realized I had an issue with the fret-board.

It's a light hardwood neck/fret board.

How should I attack protecting the little frets when I spray. I'm guessing just tape and a razor. Was curious if any masters have different methods or if tedious taping is way to go.

I just got all the shellac drips off them and don't want to repeat the prior owners mistake.

On a side note, finish recommendations? I was going to use a satin spray poly

3M Scotch blur tape. Seal it well at the edges and around the frets with your thumbnail.
To discuss all finish possibilities would take forever. First, nail down what you abilities are and what equipment you have. After knowing those things then we can talk.

Thanks,

I'll give that a shot.

Ya, finishes are plentiful. I've just wrapped my mind around finishes in my other wood working endeavors, instruments is a whole different game.
