Kala KA-TE Mahogany

A wild (but not that wild) guess is that you're looking at the difference of looking at it from a straight angle as opposed to slightly from the side. If you look at any glossy instrument, you'll notice that the grain shows better if you let light reflect off of it at an angle. Add a little flash in the review pics, and there you go.
 
i agree with ukeninja. I have the Kala KA-C which is the non electric concert version on that uke. the grain is actually very good on these ukes... the one on kala's website looks like they are lit from above are are just flat wood. the one on mgm's, and my site actually show the really good grain of these ukes.

Thats a mislabeled photo on the Kala website They have white binding and is a satin finish usually with a more ricbbon grained look like the concert posted in the thread. The one pictured is a semi gloss looking Ka asmte
