Found a 1950's vintage 8" Craftsman TS. thinking of setting it up as a dedicated slotting setup. It needs a motor and I have a 1/3 hp available. OEM was a 1/2 hp 3450rpm turning a blade at 4500 rpm..

Would the 1/3 hp be enough to power the slotting blade (4" x 0.023")?

Just wanted to check before i went to the trouble of fabbing a motor mount.

It should work ok..if the blade diameter isn't too great..I made a table saw set up for fret slotting some years ago, out of an old scrap bandsaw table and an ancient "Black and Decker" hand power drill..the blade diameter is 100mm and cuts ebony like butter...here is a video of the set up...I still use it today co's it's never let me down.

Thanks for the input. The bearings feel ok, so I guess I'm just going to have to see if the setup will hold tolerance or not. If not, I can transfer the sled to another saw.

Timbuck: Thanks for the video. I think I have the parts to cobble something similar together.
