Hi,

I'm a complete beginner and have been trying to learn online, but I'm having difficulty tuning...

The notes GCEA sound different on these two sites:
http://www.ukeschool.com/ukulele/lessons/uke_tuner.html
http://www.get-tuned.com/ukulele_tuner.php

So far I've just been practising strumming regardless of how my uke is tuned, but obviously this isn't a great idea in the long run, so can someone tell me which site has the better tuning, or give me general tuning tips?

Are you doing it by ear? Invest in a clip on tuner.

Yes. Why, are they actually the same but I have a bad musical ear?

For now, I'd prefer not to buy something else, but thanks anyway; I will keep that in mind for later.

Can someone just give me their thoughts on the tuning of those 2 sites in the first post?

Okay. I guess it's just perception. Thanks.

Every instrument will produce a different sound and tone. How it's built, the type of wood used for the body and soundboard, strings, size of the uke are factors to consider. The online tuners seem to have the same pitch. If you're gonna use use one, use only one and try not to compare it with another. If you're in doubt about the ones you're using, try this one (http://www.sheep-entertainment.nl/ukulele/index.html). The preferred method is using a clip on tuner mentioned by deach.

Amen to that! I do tune by ear, piano, guitar and many other means, but the clip on tuner is a great timesaver and a cheap investment for ukulele enjoyment. Ric

It wasn't a clip-on tuner, but my friend lent me his electronic "chromatic tuner" after I made this thread and it makes tuning ridiculously easy. I will definitely need to buy my own sometime.

Try a clip on, they are even easier than chromatics! Definitely worth investing in if you can.

I love my $20 Korg chromatic tuner. Bought it at guitar center and it tunes my bass, elec guitar, acou guitar, and uke.
