In Finland there was a breed of mercenary knights called Hakkapeliitta.
They used to practice their swordsman-ship by throwing small turnips
up in the air and trying to cut them in half as they fell.

During times of peace when the carrying of arms was forbidden the
Hakkapeliitta invented the game of Pesäpallo as a means of keeping
their eye in, and maintaining their quick reactions.

The Finns when they emigrated to America took their game pesäpallo
with them, and it was modified slightly to become baseball.
One of their favourite songs was "the ballgame take me to" which was
a Russian tango. It was greatly modified and became a popular song
in America in 1908. The rest is history.

You can always trust Wee Ginga Yin to come up with great historical facts about songs ;)

It is most important to get a historical perspective on the origin of things.
Nobody could ever accuse me of Soviet revisionism :)

More whacked out genius from Finland

You have got to go with the flow... once an idea gets you it needs to be processed
failure to do so may mean that you have to play George Formby for an hour to get it out your system.

This would be the perfect song for the Addam's family to go to the ballgame! :)

If I catch your drift are you making some sort of oblique allusion to the fact that I may bear
an uncanny resemblance to a certain member of the aforementioned family ?
