Thanks Stephen. I want a Pineapple concert with a radiused fretboard. Either Myrtle, Maple or Walnut (I think). Not too much bling, but I want something distinctive and hand made. I was thinking MM, but if I can find something relatively local, I'd love to spend the money here and I'd love to be relatively involved in the process.
And plays quite nicely, too - Roy Smeck was one of his teachers.
Jim D'Ville has one of Joel's Stradalele Ukes, and it is wonderful. I got to play a few of his at the Electric City Uke Fest in Schenectady a few weeks back, and they are all great - not in the current budget, but very reasonably priced for hand-made instruments - around what you'd pay for a Kamaka or KoAloha, less than a Compass Rose.
And, I must point out, every brand of instrument I've mentioned is worth the price paid - if you are going to play it.
