Just wanted to post my appreciation to all the wonderful dealers out there who provide us with such fantastic instruments and strings and accessories for it, kindly answer all our questions, set-up our ukes, give us lots of really valuable advices and enable us to appreciate playing our favourite instrument to the max. In particular: Mims, Mike at Uke Republic, Jake Wildwood, Aaron Keim, Andy "Banjo" Perkins, the good folks at Hawaii Music Supply and Southern Ukulele Store and Elderly Music, Simon and his crew at JG Windows, my favourite uke dealer Tony at Hound Dog Music, string-wizards Dirk with South Coast Strings and Ken with Living Waters strings, Lori and her excellent uke leash, and so on. Thanks for being all so kind and helpful and genuinely awesome! Love you guys! <3 <3 <3

The Uke community is so, "Humble"!...which makes learning so, enjoyable!

I tend to think of them (and YOU Mike) as "giants of awesomeness" rather than "little guys", hehe

This means the world to me! You dont even know! Made my day, heck... my week... dare I say my year with this post! And back atcha! Thanks to UU and all the people here! Answering questions is a joy. I meet so many cool, amazing people. My best friends in the world are on this site. The Uke Community is exactly what that word means, an actual community of friends and support and we are just a part of it.

Our uke dealers here at UU are THE BEST to deal with bar none!!!! All are easy to talk to and they truely want to give you the best possible experience with the ukulele!! For me....I always include our UU dealers when looking to buy!!!

Well dear Mim, think all the joy people get when they buy a wonderfully set-up quality uke from you and how these ukes keep bringing them new joy everyday! :)

Just think how much grief could be avoided if newbies understood that two examples of the exact same model uke can be completely different.

When one buys from a non-specialist box-shifter who offers the lowest price, one will often (not always) get an instrument with nasty strings that seems unplayable, intonates poorly and just sounds bad. It may appear to the newbie that 'ukuleles are actually not real instruments at all, but toys that can't make real music. They may give it up and go buy an Epiphone Les Paul instead.

When one buys from a specialist dealer who engages with, and becomes a friend of, the uke community, one will nearly always get a very reasonably priced instrument that has been checked thoroughly and set up with adequate strings to be as playable as possible. The instrument will play with good intonation and will encourage learning and progress. It can be the first step toward the joyful obsession that consumes so many people here.

Two examples of the same instrument really can be that different. I've experienced it.

It would be a no-brainer, but the uninitiated just see the numbers, and that's not their fault; times are tough. It's a shame so many people make them tougher by buying from volume outlets that really don't give a thingy. What use is saving $10 if you can't play what you buy?

Our indie dealers do a great job.

I'll throw Mercatinodellukulele.it into the THANK YOU mix as well. Why? That's only Aquila's online store... Mimmo on UU. And while I don't think he's on UU, Patrick at Musique83.fr is awesome, and Mike at Uke Republic...

What the uke lacks in local availability, it makes up for with the best specialized online stores. :)

Matter of fact, I just ordered a uke from them! It should arrive in a few days. They set-up their ukes before sending them and have excellent prices. Can't wait! :)

I had a really nice conversation with Mike from Uke Republic the other day, total darling this guy and extremely helpful. I just wish his shop wasn't on the other side of the pond. Sniff!

Let's keep spreading the love! Keep the praises coming! :)

Well that is extremely nice! I must say thanks to all the customers (many who are now friends) . I really get to meet some fantastic interesting people due this job and what seems to be common with most all as that they are really nice. Uke players are just wonderful. I love this forum too, a great online community.
I would love to open a shop in Euroland then everyone would love to hear me talk . Cheers ya'll!

Mim,
I'm very pleased to call you my friend. Even though we only met for a short while at TBUS Getaway last year, I couldn't wait to get a uke from you. I'm still loving it, and hope to get to see you again, soon!

I have to agree, the dealers who are members here are amazing! I do have a complaint though, if they were not so nice and helpful my UAS would be way more under control :). I haven't had the pleasure of meeting most if them in person, but have spoken on the phone or emailed Mike at Mainland, Mike at Uke Republic, Musicguymic, and Andrew at HMS many times and always feel the aloha. And one of the most pleasant afternoons in my life was spent visiting Mims old ice cream & uke shop in Charlotte!

I would like to add Highly Strung in the UK to this list. Very friendly and efficient service.
