I have had a few people bring these U.S.O.s into our shop to see if anything can be done to make them better. Oh, I got U.S.O. from Barnkicker's Steve Boisen, not sure if he coined it. U.S.O. is Ukulele Shaped Object. They look and sometimes feel like a ukulele but don't sound like a ukulele. Think the sound of a cutting board with string a'top it. They were commonly found in Music stores about 10 years back. You would go in and they would pull a very dusty USO out and with a puzzled look hand it to you to try. They are still made today, you'll know one when you strum across it.

Yes, in fact I own one of these mystical ukulele-shaped objects. In fact, it's currently the closest thing I currently own to an actual ukulele. I plan on rectifying this by ordering a Mainland uke though UkeRepublic. :)
