So for my Girlfriend's birthday, I am writing her a Cello and Piano duet, as I am a pianist and she is a cellist. While I am used to composing, I am not particularly experienced at writing for cello. Is there anything that people could suggest I look at whilst writing it, or take into account? Thanks :)

Cellos have a beautiful range that is very human like. Put the melody in a good range that doesnt have a lot of unnecessary string crossing. Maybe keep in mind finger positions to avoid awkward fingerings. Play in a sharp key (D, A, E) rather than (F, Eb, Ab). Not much else I can think of.
