A new Sideways 8 Monkey Pod Tenor by Andrew Gibson arrived at the house today.
I'm quite impressed by the finish and sound. I'll do a full review later on after I've had it a while.
You can see more of Andrew's work at http://www.sideways8uke.com and www.gibsonwoodworking.com

Here's a few pics and day-one sound sample (it will only get better!).
For some reason I have tuned 1 step down, sounds superb with the Aquila strings on it. Hard to believe the finish is just Tru-oil, it is so smooth with a light gloss.

Sounds very mellow...I would like to hear it normal tuning just so my ears could compare.

Can't beat them for the price for sure.

Congrats Doc,
she looks well crafted and beautiful...and sounds nice...Happy Strummings

Very nice looking and sounding uke, Doc. A real looker. You are amassing quite a collection. Probably one of the most diverse I have seen.

Wow, Doc, that is one lovely uke. I had not seen the Sideways site before. I find the speckling/spotting in the wood a real winner. Wonder what the instrument might sound like <up> one step over C? I don't think I've ever played a uke with radiused fretboard and should look into that. Congratulations!

It's nice to see more and more people admire Andrew's work. I am also a happy owner of a Sideways Eights Monkeypod tenor - and I love it !

I have posted on youtube two clips with Savarez strings and tuned normally .. The youtube sound quality is maybe not perfect - but you can compare with aquilas.

It opened up a lot since the time I recorded those videos - and I mean A LOT !

I hope you dont mind Doc for this little thread hijacking :) - but I think Andrew's instruments deserve attention :)

Please go ahead, I totally agree. BTW Great playing Pawel!

I had to smile when when I read the uke's label "Sideways Eight, Because Gibson was taken"

Really beautiful work! Love the finish!
