On the layover in New York - Nothing worse than time
changes to kick your butt. 11 hour flight from Honolulu to N.Y,
got off the plane like a zombie - drug to the hotel and waited
for a room then crashed for a hard couple of hours of much
needed sleep. Am up and now it's UKE time. Thank goodness
for our Ukes. Will be nice to be back home with regular hours
as am still recovering but SO much better than what it was.
Voice is coming back. Really wanted to get some nice video
of playing in Hawaii but it didn't happen due to getting laid out
flat with the virus. So oh well best laid plans shot and over.
Wanted to jam with some people in Hawaii but that didn't happen
either. For the most part the traveling has been just me and my
Uke which is just fine as well. Maybe instead of singing me and
my shadow have to change it to me and my ukelele. hahahahaha

Are you guys more of a single player or more of a group type
person ?

am sure that playing uke in this moment is a good idea to
get rid of the remaining shakiness just due simply to the body
being exhausted and still recovering. hmmmm maybe food
would be a good idea as well. Just not much of an apatite still.

Good to hear your feeling better. Good luck on the final leg.

I bet your own bed will feel great!

To answer your question, I'm more of a single player due to lack other uke players near but do get together with guitar and harmonica players on occasions.

Good to hear your feeling better.

* not fully recovered but well on my way to being so.

Good luck on the final leg.

* thanks the time change is kicking my butt at the moment.

I bet your own bed will feel great!

* nice and well known. hahahahahaah

* so far i have been a single player as didn't find anyone to really jam
with in florida. Went to a couple of the uke groups but that really isn't
my thing. It sort of reminds me of the group hug thing. hahahahaha

Have always been more of a off on my own person but would enjoy
actual jamming.

Like your Tiki Santa hat.

I hope you have a quick recovery, 000Kanaka000.

I play with a ukulele group once a month, 40 miles away, for a couple of hours. In between I have no choice but, to play by myself since there are no ukulele groups in my community. I don't really mind playing by myself but, I do like playing with a group.

* well it hasn't been quick but it is much much better.

* so you will drive quite a ways to play with a group. What is it about
the group playing that is so attractive ?

In between I have no choice but, to play by myself since there are no ukulele

* so seems you enjoy the group playing better.

I don't really mind playing by myself but, I do like playing with a group.

* the way you say it seems that you don't enjoy playing
alone nearly as much as in a group. hmmmmm am trying
to understand the psychology of the group dynamic versus
solo.

thank you

Group playing can get frustrating. Some folks want so do some serious jamming while others just want to socialize. The group I play with is mostly social so I don't try to make it something else.

That's one of the advantages of playing with, oops, by yourself. You can set the intensity level of the playing.

Glad to hear you're feeling better, sorry to hear your plans were affected by being sick :(

As for the playing. I've never had the opportunity to play with others. So, I usually play on my own and talk Ukes with you guys and other friends. My dream it to one day be in a position where I can play with others frequently. Right now, life is making it impossible. I'm disabled and my health is declining but one day I will get to play with others!

* understood ---

* hahahahahah - indeed when playing in the singular there are no
group expectations and so one has the freedom to set the tone.

* well those things happen - actually went for someone else and their
part of the journey worked out well so it's all good.

* am hoping then that your health recovers so you can do whatever it is
that makes you happy. Are there no other that live close to you so you
could have a get together uke session ? how about a uke over skype
connection of course it would have to be where there is a great skype
connection without a lag in the transmission.

i am new to the uke, i am joining a club in the new year, i am just off the bottom rung of playing so will be going to learn from others in the club, one thing is the uke certainly focuses the mind, get well soon
atb wallyboy

* can understand the wanting to learn from others aspect.
one can learn to stay on tract better if they play the uke it is a good
focusing tool for those who can become distracted. If it can hold the
interest it can hold the attention. Good luck with the uke club
experience.

Actually, I like playing solo just as much as with a group. Most of my other activities are solo activities as well. However, playing with a group is a different energy and it's easy to get caught up in it. We also have solo performances and it's nice to see what everyone is working on.

Driving 40 miles isn't the only reason I go. My girlfriend lives there too. :D

* ok can understand a guy going with the additional bonus of
seeing their girlfriend.

It sucks that what should have been a relaxing and fun time in paradise turned into being sick in bed. :( Hope you bounce back soon.

I'm definitely more of a single player. I play mostly classical/fingerpicking which lends itself more to solo playing.

I'm not averse to a group situation, but from what I can tell, they are mostly strum and singalongs. Not that there's anything wrong with that. There's a meetup group close to me in Pasadena that I'd like to get involved with, but their gatherings are infrequent and often without much notice. :(

* yes that is what they appear to be for the most part.

* indeed.

* that does make it difficult.
