I was wondering what folks had planned for the end of the world on December 21, 2012 at 6:11 – EST?

Thank God I‘ll be off that day (that would be the pits to be at work when the world ends), plus we don’t have a gig, else it might be kind of chaotic (I hate screaming).

Anyone have of cool EOTWP (end of the world party) they are going to?

Lastly, what song will you be playing when the world ends?

I just realized...why did I worry so much about my cholesterol?

I have a dyslexic friend who thought it was today. True story.

So he will be in terror 9 more days? I hope he didn't max out his credit cards , 9 days of interest on a Ferrari Enzo is high.

We need to plan something hilarious for the 22nd. Maybe we should have a Kool-aid party, in honor of all the people that drank it. Maybe raise funds and donate them to the Randi Foundation.

I have nothing to add to this thread, just wanted to let my man with the Clemson banner.. Geaux Tigers, it's going to be a new years eve worth forgetting for the poor Clemson fans that make that drive to Atlanta

I'm going to giggle at the irony of the Mayans who claimed to see so far into the future that the world would end but didn't have the foresight to see their own untimely demise!

Playing it safe, having a pre birthday meal out with my beautiful wife and daughter on the 20th. It's my 54th birthday on the 22nd. So, if the Myans are correct I still get to celebrate my birthday and if they wrong I get to go out again on my birthday. So it's a win win situation. On the other hand not even the Myan people believe it I'm guessing seeing as they have taken our deposit at the hotel on the Myan Riviera for next June.

ETF

Then there's the theory that this calendar doesn't predict anything other than needing to update it on the 22nd.
found that one out there....

Um... Guys?

The calendar used by the ancient Maya civilisation does not predict the end of the world in December 2012 as some believe, according to experts.

A new reading of a Maya tablet mentioning the 2012 date suggests that it refers to the end of an era in the calendar, and not an apocalypse. The date was "a reflection of the day of creation", Mayan codes researcher Sven Gronemeyer told AP. The day also marked the return of a Maya god, Mr Gronemeyer added.

Bolon Yokte, the god of creation and war, was expected to return, according to Mr Gronemeyer's reading of a Mayan text carved into stone 1,300 years ago. The date marks the end of one of the periods of roughly 400 years into which the Mayan calendar is divided. Mexico's National Institute for Anthropological History has also tried to counter speculation that the Maya predicted a catastrophic event for 2012.

Only two out of 15,000 registered Mayan texts mention the date 2012, according to the Institute, and no Mayan text predicts the end of the world.

"There is no prophecy for 2012. It is a marketing fallacy," Erik Velasquez, etchings specialist at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, told Reuters.

If you are reading this in English on UU, the human race did survive 21 Dec 12, just, and we all made it to a safe planet near Alpha Centauri because of an amazing spaceship we found. This message is coming to you from our time travel iPAD or ttPAD as we call it. Our new planet is really cool, all the trees are koa or mahogany and there is a plant that eats the wood and has ukulele shaped fruit, complete with our favourite flourocarbon strings. Sadly all the guitars and trumpets and other instruments got left behind and burned up when the planet Earth turned into a black hole overnight. We have some icecreams and chocolate biscuits ready for when you arrive.

Had a laugh when I read this.

I got me a purple leotard, 4 gallons of grape kool-aid and plan to jump on the comet hale-bopp when it whizzes by..

There goes my strategy for buying things with 90 day payment plans...

Went to lunch today with some folks from work and I posed the same question. One guy tells me he is not worried, "my clip is loaded and I have 4 gallons of water at the house" and he was serious. It was was real hard not to spit the water out of my mouth. I changed the subject.

I wouldn't bet on him really being serious. If somebody had asked me that question I would have given a very similar answer, with the most deadpan expression I could manage, just for fun. I did much the same thing back during the big Y2K scare - when I know something is utterly ridiculous my natural reaction is to do my best to fulfill folk's expectations. Some of my more gullible coworkers are probably still holding onto the maps to my secret compound from back then... LOL
