Perhaps some of you already know this, but Bosko & Honey's Ukulele Safari 2008 has come to and end.

The closing ceremony was on November 30, at Hikoroku bar in Koenji, Tokyo (check the opening ceremony video on their Youtube channel to see the location). A great variety of ukulele players was there to send Bosko and Honey off and to enjoy general ukulele happiness. B&H finished about ten months of traveling all over the globe, meeting uke players, making videos, editing some of them but quite a few not yet ;), and accomplished some serious steps toward ukulele world domination

The evening was an open mic, with B & H playing a song or two to open each of the three session of about half an hour, and most of the people attending did a song or two as well. Among them members from Ukulele Afternoon, Max the Ukulele Punk Rocker, Takahashi Shigeto (famous for playing Hilo March, Clair de lune and other highly technical stuff on mountain tops and out in the wild), Daisy Dobuyuki and Pommade-man, Mr. Odajima (Bar Hikoroku's owner and leader of Ukulele Afternoon; again, check B&H's video) and many famous local ukulele players. Unfortunately star-of-Youtube mr. Yoshimura of Lighting Ukulele was not able to come, but there was a guest from the dark side... Just great to see what a range of sounds everyone pries out of their four-string mini-guitars.

I did one song as well, but ended up butchering the song (Autumn Leaves) on a borrowed uke while trying to cope with fingertips dripping with sweat and shivering frantically because of the stress, due to this being my first time to play in front of people. But wow, it is actually a lot of fun to do! Overall it was a warm, welcome, loving night of ukulele goodness. May all UU meetings be in similar fashion, and inspire fuzzy feelings in all those who attend.

A great night, lots of talking and playing and laughing, too much of the yellow joy that is beer, and home wa---y past bedtime. Worth every square inch of headache the next morning.

2008: UU, Safari, in many ways an important year for the yookahlaylee!

P.S. Be sure to check out B&H's new UkuleleMusicVideo channel, apparently they plan to do more music vids with the footage they have now so check it out to see more fellow ukulelists in the future. Also, see Youtuber addits for more Japanese ukefestivity at an event called "Ukulele Lunchbox" held about a week ago. B&H and other artists performing!

Any word on a second safari?
Word there is, but not a concrete plan. My topic title is a bit disastrous, but I believe they need at least a year off to finish the video editing ;) But they also said that there are a lot of people that couldn't be fit into the schedule this time around, so plenty of possibilities left for another round of safari-ing.

keonepax: The place was packed. Not that it's a very roomy bar, but maybe 25-30 people? Great atmosphere, some really nice original songs. Great company.

(Sorry, just a little bump because the report dropped off the charts already...)

that did look cool broh. Hopefully they will be up to round 2!
