Merry Christmas Stan - and...yeah...I broke down and got that Pono baritone because I couldn't pass up a deal on a second - otherwise I hadn't intended to get anything until well after Christmas.

On the plus side I just today found out that I'm getting a little unexpected performance bonus at work - not life changing but it will cover the Pono purchase and then some. Yay, my plastic doesn't have to stay in that melted puddle!

Merry Christmas everybody...and let's all remember it's not really about "more stuff" - even those of us who did break down and buy "more stuff." :sheepish:

Happy holidays as well to you Stan.
Ya know, most of us know you for your positive vibe and epic uke collection, but let me tell you, when I came to you for advice a few weeks ago the wisdom you shared with me was just what I needed to hear. I can't thank you enough for that, just right on point. You're awesome. If anyone has problems, no need pyscologis, jus ask Stan! :D
We are all very different, yet the appreciation for this instrument and music is a stronger and the connection is automatic. Can't say for sure, but this may be the best forum in the universe. (not sure about alien forums?)

Hey did you draw that? pretty good!

Merry Christmas Stan! I'm not getting a uke, but getting a mic and other music-related things that I'm pretty stoked about. :) If anyone wants to geek out about non-uke Christmas swag, no matter how big or small, or not even a gift, just something you're excited about, my Christmas mega thread got buried some pages down in general discussion.

And a Joyous Christmas to you, as well, Stan.

Naw, didn't get anything uke-related.

But what was Great was going to Fitncrafty's for Chanukah, and just jamming along with her on Uke, and other friends on Guitar & Bass (While the kids were in the other room playing Rock Band!)

And I was able to give a couple of things to people who deserved them - that always makes me feel good.

Now if only someone hadn't beat me to sending Daily Uke II out to Swindon, I'd be all set!

As Stan knows, the 8-string Kamaka I bought at HMS in October is my holiday gift to myself, but it wouldn't be the holiday season without giving, so I've been handing out Makala Dolphins, so far one to the son of friends of mine and another to the community that supports my Wednesday evening ukulele class, the J-Town Hui. Happy holidays, and best wishes for a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year.

By the way, Stan, great holiday drawing!

So THAT's what happened to it!

I was told by a representative of Santa Claus' Nigerian Operations that I was to receive that very ukulele - but first, I had to give them my bank information, so that they could make sure that I hadn't been Too Naughty...

When I told them what my average daily balance was, there was much laughing and then he hung up on me...

Happy Xmas from a rain sodden UK Stan.

Unfortunately due to illness my outside chance of a Christmas Uke is now looking like a Hogmanay or more likely Burn's Night Uke. (Hope you're still on the mend Ian!)

Coming my way! Finally, a Martin M1 to go with my style 0. I think it's from the 40s-50s. Can't wait to play it.

So this holiday season I bookended Martins with old and new:

An old style 1-M

I also ordered a Gretsch laminate from their new classic line. I want a uke to leave in my classroom.

Happy holidays all!

My Firefly is here, thus horrifying my brother last night. My sister-in-law wants me to bring it to the family gathering this afternoon, but I don't plan to subject myself to any more abuse (!). Note - he does not object to the Firefly itself, just to my pathetic attempts to play recognizable music (!!!!!!), and he's right. 2013 goal: practice.

That new place is actually the Two Way Street coffee house. They have been presenting quality folk music every Friday night for over 40 years. They feature touring professionals from around the US and Canada. They also host 4 open mikes a year.
The same room houses a sing aroound on the first and third Saturday of each month from 2-4 PM and a bluegrass jam on the 4th Saturday.

Aloha Lenny and Mark,
Yes love my Anakoneke....you know I love my warm and rich sounding ukes very much, but Toni's uke is on the Crisp bright tone and on the other side of the spectrum....
which I love...not brash at all, but sweet bright tone which is my preference....and also I wouldn't want to be redundant on all warm rich customs...I have had many
friends and family pick out her uke among all my very best customs and go wow....so I think it's not me only... a friend sold me a concert of hers and the next day I
got in touch with her wanting one...it is the fastest impulse buy I ever had, because I knew in my heart she was the builder for me.....and she did not disappoint me .

Aloha Gilmor,
Very nice amp and uke...I believe I do not know those brands...can you tell me about them....must be only sold in the UK?

Sure. As above the amp is an Ibanez Troubador, I can't remember the exact model but I'm very pleased with it.

The Uke is a Laka VUC80-EA Concert Ukulele (made by Vintage IIRC) Koa back and sides, Spruce top, rosewood board, fishman pickup system. I think at the moment they're only available in the UK. I must say it's a beautiful instrument, very nicely made and sounds great acoustically with a bright and full tone. I find the piezo pickup a little harsh but that's always been my experience of Piezo (irrespective of make) and you can do a bit to EQ it out. It's ever so slightly larger than most concert uke's which suits me fine (I'm a bass player in real life) but annoyingly wouldn't fit in a normal Concert gig bag, so it's in a tenor one at the moment. The cutaway is wasted on me, but I think it looks attractive!

4678446785I was able to get myself my first 'real' ukulele for Christmas this year! Things have been tight for the past year w/taking on my fiancee's grandson. But a lil promotion and a few months of some overtime really came in handy here towards the end of the year. She convinced me to go ahead and get something nice for myself for once. I had already been eying some of the Kala instruments that Mim had for sale so I went with a Kala Tenor KA-GATE-C Golden Acacia. Btw, all the rumors, scuttlebutt & tales of her ukuleles are 100% accurate. :DOutstanding service and I got a quality uke to play. Everything about it feels so different and right. Considering my experience consists of 10 mo. with a Luna Tattoo concert and a $25 soprano wall-hanger. Hmm, I may have a touch of that UAS that I have read so much about... And to top it off, my sweetie surprised me with a charm for the new acquisition. It is so apt for this bit of new wood and proves again her love knowing how much a dork like me would love it!
