The sacrificing of a boar at Yuletide was an old custom thought to date back to Anglo Saxon times to ensure that the sun came back after the soltice.

A boars head is still ceremoniously brought in at Queens College, Oxford each year. A number of other schools and colleges both here in the UK and in N. America also practice this custom.

This song is essentially a processional and this version was published in 1521
