Okay Martin friends: like salmon spawning, I buy my ukes in clumps during my "uke buying season." Usually it's around Christmas, and sometimes I go a few years without buying any; I haven't bought a new uke in two years.

But this year I used my hobby budget to buy three Martin ukes.

A new s1
A vintage Martin 1

and...

..a new Martin 2. I know, I was going to wait and play them, but this one kept calling to me and I decided to pull the trigger.

So, I'm happily done for now. I'll be enjoying these for sometime to come, and with the help of John B, my uke buddy and banjo uke player extraordinaire, be practicing my triples.

Thanks to Petey, Steve, Gary, Ryan and all the Martin lovers who gave me advice and information as I selected this "season."

Happy New Year, all!

that looks sweet! Thanks for sharing. I'd love to see a review of your new uke.

Thank God you finally got a Martin 2, Brother Pdx. Why? Because my new Martin 2 arrives in (looks at wristwatch) six hours! I can now justify it because with you and Petey and a few others getting one, they're becoming as common as horseflies at a picnic!

I wanted to see if the hog M2 sounded different than the cherry M3. Plus, to practice those wild Roy Smeck inspired, finger flailing strums like on your other thread, I need a " house cue". Lol. ( actually, I use my Pono for that).

Do tel what you think of yours!! Exciting, ain't it.

PS. Wait...you also have a vintage 1M coming this week? You gots it bad. You needs to see a specialist and get some stroooong med-cine, child. Castor oil alone ain't gonna do it now, you hear?

Hey "coolkayaker " I'm just wondering why you are selling your cherry Martin style 3 ? Didn't you just get it recently ?
I'm getting a case of Martin Fever reading about everyone else here getting new Martins.

The " Holy Grail " , man you guys are driving me to buy a new Martin. I've been dreaming about a style 5 for so long now. Maybe this will get me to sell some of my guitars to buy one.
Are you thinking NEW or OLD ?

Get rid of the guitars, man! Buy a 5k!

And any 5k I'd ever hope to own would have to be a new one.

You guys are funny!

@pdxuke: Congrats on the style 2. I love mine, I love mine, I love mine.

I'm still waiting for my 2K tenor and the style 3 maghogany. No 5K for me... I'd be as poor as a church mouse! hehe

Enablers, all of you! I have a new Martin 2K and it sings! I ordered it from Elderly after seeing the Petey Houdini review.

Enabling is what UU is all about. You want tough love--call your parents! :) Here, it's--WHY OF COURSE YOU NEED THAT NEW MARTIN! BUY IT!

That is AWESOME!

Happy New Year, all!

That S2 is really really nice looking. I don't think I've seen a good photo of the mahogany version. Is it really that red? The old Style 2s always seemed to be more reddish than the other styles (not sure if that's accurate, but that's my impression).

Your binge reminds me of mine last year, when I got my vintage Style 3 and my Gibson Uke 3 two weeks apart. $2300 on two ukes right at Christmas time... Safe to say THAT won't be happening for me again! It was great, though....

Did I say I thought it was bad? In my next sentence I wrote that I bought a great new Martin 2K! Your Mahogany 2 is gorgeous.

Remarks made in jest--sorry if I offended--the limitations of the net!

Chris, I'll let you know about the red tone when I have it hand--but I hope so, cause it's be-you-ti-ful.

I always buy my ukes in binges--although, I prefer to call them "seasons," haha. It's because of the nature of my work as a teacher: by mid year winter break my brains are about to fall out of my head, my patience is worn (I teach middle school:) and I need a pleasant diversion. So, around the holidays I buy a bunch of ukes (hobby budget permitting) and then spend the rest of the year evaluating. In the Spring I may add another for birthday. When school lets out for summer, and right before I turn college professor for the summer, I decide if any need to be sold. From that point on, I play and enjoy my keepers all summer long, until the next season.

Man, i've had some great ukes this way. If I sell I usually do fine or take a small loss, but i consider that tuition in the cost of my education. I have no problem buying a uke, spending a month with it, learning from it, and selling it--or even giving it away. All of this is part of the fun.

I'm thinking about getting one and I can get a very good deal locally (still a lot of money), so I'm eager to hear from you how it sounds and what the build quality is. Petey is very enthusiastic, so I'm looking forward to your opinion how it compares to your vintage Martins. :D
