Best portable recorder.
I think these samples will be very useful to anyone trying to choose from the vast array of portable recorders available.

My own choice was...
After listening to all the examples within the budget I set for myself I purchased the Sony PCM10-M10 and couldn't be happier. Within it's price range I believe it has the lowest noise floor for either standalone recording with it's internal mics or use with condenser mics. It may not have the bells and whistles of some of the others but if recording good sound is the primary goal then I think it is the best choice in it's class. It's also very small, about the size of the original I-Pad, with no protruding components that could be susceptible to damage or make it awkward to put in your pocket
