This old Martin ukulele has spent the past 93 years forgotten in an attic. It was found in an old mansion in Duluth, Minnesota USA, a few months ago.

Here's a pic of the house it was found in.

Here's a pic of the same house in 1919

Duluth is situated at the westernmost point of the Great Lakes on the north tip of Lake Superior. The owner of the house was a man who passed away recently. He had no immediate relatives and all his possessions were publicly auctioned at the house. The ukulele was found in a remote section of the attic. It appears to have had very little use.

It looks to be the same model that is featured in the Martin 1919 catalog. It has a kite emblem on the peg-head, bow-tie inlay, striped nut, wooden pegs and markers at the 5, 7 and 9th frets.

The person who purchased it at auction listed it on eBay and I was the successful bidder.

The uke is in mint condition. It's a time machine and sounds very sweet. I've uploaded a YT video so you can hear it here:

Great uke, interesting history. What's not to like? Thanks for posting!

That's a gem! One of the earliest style 3's with the Diamond and Bow tie inlays. Very nice.

You really did well. Fantastic uke with a great story.

A few more pics for those interested.

Wonder how it survived so well in an attic? It seems the extremes of heat and cold would have wreaked havoc with the wood.

Beautiful ukulele, beautiful house, beautiful story. Congratulations
