View Full Version : I hit the Ukulele Lottery!!! Moore Bettah Ukulele Honu / Tapa!!!

Dan Uke

I was lucky enough to win this beautiful uke. The brownish / redish koa is lovely and this uke just exudes Hawaii with it's Honu and Tapa Art. Besides using Ebony, it's mainly built with different colors of koa. I could say much more but I'll let the pics do the talking.

A few more pics. Chuck is awesome as I asked him if he can install a guitar strap and he made his own out of koa. Chuck really concentrates on the overall flow of the uke.

My wife loves this ukes as it reminds her of Hawaii, where she grew up. She also liked the Shaka and Hang Ten uke on Chuck's site and he told us it's the same wood...my wife has great taste! LOL

Daniel, that is gorgeous! While I appreciate all of Chuck Moore's work and think his ukes look and sound beautiful, most of them are not what I would order for myself. Now, I could see myself with something like that. I love, love, love the wood inlay work. Well wishes for many happy moments with your Moore Bettah.

Hooray Daniel! Plays like Buttah, eh?

It's smooth like buttah but I have to get used to the low action...I pick at around the 12th to 14th fret and sometimes, I don't get the sound I want as it's low but that should be an easy fix as I get to know the uke.

Wow Daniel, that's a beauty!!! Can't wait to see it in person someday (hopefully it can travel). I haven't had the chance to see a Chuck Moore Uke in person.

–Lori

I would love for you to try it, I'll definitely bring it to our gathering as long as you promise to bring your custom when it's done!

It's rightfully mine, given how much time I sat staring at it on Chuck's website after you won the right to buy it. (Just kidding.) I've had UAS, now I have Uke Envy. Congratulations on a beautiful, beautiful uke!

We all can get back to work now!!

does it treat your UAS ? :D

I don't think I have a bad case of UAS as I am happy with a low G and high G uke...I buy and then sell. I have a bad case of trying to always find a better instrument. I realize I am also one that likes the uke to look beautiful and there's nothing like a MBU and LFDM. I'm sure there's many other great luthiers out there so check them out. The only luthiers I would not choose is if they asked me if I play about the 7th fret (Sorry, alluding to some other threads). If they said they don't build 14 frets to the body because they believe the sound is the best at the 12th fret, I'm perfectly fine with that answer. Of course, a nice baritone would be intriguing...wait, I just said I don't have a bad case of UAS

Congratulations, Daniel. That's an awesome looking ukulele. And as usual, your playing is precocious for your few months with the instrument, and absolutely lovely.

PS. Your wife would like the checkbook back now. You've been naughty too many times.

Steve, The first song, Piano Forte and several of Jake's songs is a reason why you get a low G...there is no way I can stretch that far but I realized that I can play many of the notes with a low G and then it becomes very comfortable.

Yes, I've been naughty and that's why I'm selling some ukes and a Breitling Watch...who needs a watch these days when you have a cell phone!! LOL

It sounds as beautiful as it looks. Those two gorgeous ukes could not have gone to two nicer, better people. :)

Does that mean you know who bought the other uke??? :p

It's a deal. My Talsma is waiting for good weather before it can get the finish sprayed. Then I expect it will have to sit and cure for a bit, before shipping.

I am kind of interested in that long neck Kamaka... and I know others in our group might be interested too.

Not to go off topic, but I am headed that way....
Lori, I have had the pleasure of playing RyRod's Talsma. It was AWESOME. A different sound than a MB, but it was absolutely lovely. You will be very pleased. Do you get any inlay?

Back to regular programming.

Congrats on such a great uke! I visited Chuck's site today and saw that "sold" uke, now I know who was the lucky "winner"!! My MB cured my UAS. What strings you running on it? Wait till it opens up more, it just gets sweeter and sweeter! Chuck pours his heart out into each build. I truly believe an instrument has soul, especially when built buy guys like Chuck. The Hawaiian Koa, harvested from the slopes on the Island of Hawaii, my home, makes it even more special. May it bring much aloha to you and those you play for!

With the greatest of respect to all the other luthiers and their fine work, that has to be one of the most beautiful works of art I have ever seen - matched only by the other works of art that appear on the MB website.

The fact that it sounds as beautiful as it looks just makes it all the more incredible.

What an amazing work of art....and your playing certainly does the beautiful instrument justice also!!! It's awesome that, while it might be appropriate to be used as an art object hung up on the wall to look at and admire for it's asthetic qualities, the ukulele is actually going to be used and played and enjoyed the way it was meant to be!!!
