You did it quite properly, and as only you could do it.
It's definitely a tough song, at least for me. I did an instrumental version a while ago in the key of C. Even though that key usually works pretty well for my vocal range, when I tried singing it, I couldn't hit the low notes.

I listened to the Nat King Cole version and it is just so smooth and wonderful with lots of swooning strings in the background.
It would appear that Hoagy himself a shortened version on Decca with just a simple piano accompaniment which I like a lot.
My version was more of a boozy Tom Waits version. What got me was the tempo change in the middle. I just could not
get it to sit up and beg. It always ran away from me.

wonderful treatment, Rob - you do boozy Tom Waits better than anyone.
