Mini Kumalae?

So,

I've never seen one for sale, any advice or ideas as to what a Mini Kumalae is worth?

More importantly, I don't know the measurements, either. I'm mostly interested in the scale-length. It looks a LOT like the size of a Kala Pocket uke, or--er, vice-versa. Then I can start shopping for one that won't set me back a few thousand dollars...

Hi Scott.
I took rough measurements of the scale lengths from my screen. The mini seems to be about 66% of the soprano. Using 13-13.5" scale length for the soprano, I came up with roughly 8.6-8.9" for the mini.

Probally one of a kind.. this is the first one I've seen.....craigslist has a kumalae with a couple cracks for 225 and missing on tuning peg.

Well,

I went and sent the seller a message inquiring to the scale length. It is a 10" (ten inch) scale. Small!! That's a full inch shorter scale than a Kala Pocket Uke.

The mini was a well-known but very rare Kumalae, there is very little out there for as far as specifics or measurements. I also spoke with Lardyfatboy here on UU, he has his own ukulele website with some reference to it as well. Here is his site: https://sites.google.com/site/ukulelemakers/

Lardy says it's worth an easy $2,000, which I cannot in any way justify spending. Which of course, offended the seller for me pestering him with questions.... But now we all know more and hopefully I'll find one I can afford someday!

New member so go easy on me. I went to my luthier yesterday to pick up 3 ukes he had worked on for me. While I was there he showed me this miniature uke he had bought years ago when he had a music store. We were both laughing about it's size as it was so small neither of us could make a chord on it. We figured it was likely made for a child. He doesn't play uke and is looking to move it. If anyone's interested I'll put them in touch with him.

I found this thread when I was trying to identify one of my ukes I had repaired. I believe its a Kumalae Style 1 with a Kaholas label. Here's a pic of it:

I got to play a Kumalae mini-uke a couple times at a local shop. It had quite a few issues---if I remember right, it had been badly crushed (and nicely repaired) and it looked like like both the nut and the frets had been repositioned---but strummed softly, it had a sweet, mellow sound. Even with all the issues, the shop wanted $600. (That was more than the going rate for a Martin Style 0 in great condition at the time. Supply and demand are working well for Kumalae mini-uke sellers, for sure.)
