Doc J commented in another thread that there should be a place where UU members could post pics of their Moore Bettahs, the same way that Jon started the thread for Mya Moe owners. So here it is. I'm surprised that someone hasn't already done this. It will be really nice to see many of Chuck's musical works of art all in one place, beside his webpage. So it is time to pay homage to the man who has made us all aspire for one of his beauties.

Please post what ever background info you would like to about your uke/ukes. Specifications, serial number, etc.

Another "not so basic," this one finished in November 2012 while I was on the Big Island.

I had the chance to play a different MB "spec" instrument (spruce top with macadamia--a truly lovely combo and sound), but I'd always, always wanted an Hawaiian-made ukulele with koa and ebony binding (and my LoPrinzi is already a spruce top so the "sound" of the "other" uke was too similar; I wanted something different). This one, a tenor, just "feels" like me--and, as a six-year "only soprano/only high G" player, that's really saying something.

I was a bit timid about jumping up to tenor size (and low G, no less) but every day, when I play this beauty, I'm amazed at how easy the adaptation was. This is an instrument with a sound (and looks!) that make me want to become a better player so I deserve the instrument (although Hubby kindly says I already deserve it).

I especially adore the side sound port, which, while made to enhance sound for the player, I sincerely think should be called a "sniff me" port--the fragrance of the wood on this instrument is unbelievably nice.

If this thread is making you yearn for a new Moore Bettah ukulele, head over to his website, read about Chuck's approach to building ukulele, contact him and get on the waiting list. The time (and funds) are more than worth it.

I love these ukes; some of my favorites are represented here, though my all time favorite (the Canoe Wahine) was not. I hope you all play them daily, because I would. I hope to become a caretaker of a Moore Bettah someday. Until then, I will keep practicing so that one day I may be worthy!

I have been using your Savarez mix on my tenor and liked at first but think I need to consider something else. The tension is a bit too high and the a doesn't ring enough. The original worths were way to loose.

Hilarious photos. I think they were taken with a wild game motion detector camera. Not often you can catch a Moore Bettah in the wild like that. You are a lucky guy.

Hey, I never claimed I was a good photographer! Funny.
Good to see you back on UU uluapoundr.

Chuck,
I drop in every now and then. Honestly, it's to see what you've been up too, haha! I know you don't put everything on your Facebook, so I check your website, drool a little, then drop in here to see how many more UU members have been added to the Moore Bettah family. Our family has grown!

Chuck has what I would call a VERY DRY wit. That's some funny stuff there ulupoundr. :D

I have been using your Savarez mix on my tenor and liked at first but think I need to consider something else. The tension is a bit too high and the a doesn't ring enough. The original worths were way to loose.

The Savarez Alliance Classical guitar strings were my string of choice for years, ever since they came on my Kawika ukuleles. Even Jake was using these strings years ago. The tension may be too high for some, and the thin, hard strings may be sore on the fingers. I love the Alliance strings for their clarity and sustain but I've been playing around again with strings, went full circle and put Aquillas back on my MB. I got some Living Waters ordered, don't know how they will be compared to the Alliance strings. I really wanted to try my japan made fishing line since I have a lot of that in my tackle box.

Here's my MB tenor, #1213. Very nice 3A koa, slotted headstock, side sound port, and of course, beautiful rope binding. Chuck does some of the best rope binding out there - very smooth with a nice rounded edge. This one wasn't a custom, but had I the chance to choose custom options, I'm not sure it would be much different than this (although I drool over those bearclaw spruce/milo tenors!).

Anyway, I had owned a couple of nice ukuleles prior to receiving this Moore Bettah, but nothing could have prepared me for how well it plays. I've now been playing it for just shy of a year, and every time I open the case and pick it up, I get that ear to ear grin, just like the first time I saw it. Almost brings a tear to my eye! I'm still just completely stunned that someone actually made this with their own two hands. Chuck is truly a gifted luthier.

PS - Chuck originally strung it with Worth Clear hard tension strings, which sounded great. These photos were taken with it strung with Worth Browns. Big mistake on my part. Chuck definitely had it right from the start - it's now back to Worth Clear HDs sounding as good as ever!

Two Feathers is my reward to myself for turning 65, 40 years in a chair and 55 playing stringed instruments. There's a lot of spiritual involvement in the build but this is not the thread to do it in.

no, I need a good uke to suck less. I told chuck from the beginning I'm not a fancy guy, just like good tone and simple beauty. I knew one day would come. I am definitely not getting another. One Koolau and one MB is all I need. Besides cool odd balls. But more than two customs and I would feel guilty. Atleast for a few years. What more could I ask for. Here's another pic, plenty at the blog. I am on the wait list for his custom koa kitchen cabinets. They're called Most Bestest cabinets. They open so well too.

I don't have koa everywhere. It's too valuable as an instrument wood to use in the house. But I do have a humongous mango tree growing right through the middle of the house though. Makes grabbing a snack easy.

http://theukulelereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/MB-coconuts2-2.jpg

A note on these trees. They are backed by carbon fiber and are extremely strong. They Will Not break!

A side note or some added personal thought. After I had posted my new uke I went all week without touching it because I had so much work to catch up on. But this weekend we wen't camping with friends and I brought it along. That's right, I took my MB camping. Life's too short and I hardly have time. Besides pushing the kids into waves for a few hours each day I basically played it non stop. Atleast 5 or 6 hours each day because it is such a great instrument. I enjoy the beauty but these are musical instruments. The sensitive dynamics give such an expressive range, the sustain that reverberates inspires. At the Big Island Ukulele Guild there was a number of makers doing nice inlays and using beautiful woods. But that in itself doesn't do much for me. I love my MB for musical reasons.
Thanks to this artist and luthier. Keep doing what you do Chuck, because it's a gift beyond what money can buy.

Chuck lives in Hawaii(as local as can be) and almost always uses Hawaiian wood in his builds...and I think his ukuleles have a deep rich tone that I have not heard before...

I consider Moore Bettah ukuleles to have a true/real Hawaiian sound...no one close

Thanks Beau! I just got some crap but THIS CAMERA (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/893196-REG/Hasselblad_3013666_H5D_200MS_Medium_Format_Digital .html) will make your wood shavings look extra sexy! Speaking of, don't want to get off thread...

Chuck needs to buy a better camera so he can make a book of all his ukes. I would definitely buy one for the coffee table!!

What a great idea. As for Andrews photos, it's all in his eye and excellent lighting technique.

So Len (Hawaii 50) brought his MB over to show me these new South Coast strings HML-RW. LOVE these strings btw. But I figured I would snap a few shots 'cause its a beaut! So same sound as mine (perfect), but there's a few unique attractions to Lens. First the headstock, cool inlay and wood grain figure flows into the fingerboard, very cool-

Also catching the eye is a spruce top clawed by the most graceful bear-

And my favorite visual aspect on Len's MB .... Striking and unique Milo wood back and sides!

SNAP!!! I remember looking at your original pics but the grain just pops with Andrew's photos!! Beautiful!!

But the best thing is that it sounds as great as it looks. I'm glad the new SC strings are working for you.

Let's keep it coming. Who's the next lucky recipient of a MBU?

Sigh...I have got to stop reading this thread. It is so beautiful, and yet so depressing for those of us that don't have one. :(

I wanted to post mine, but everyone can see them thru Chuck's website and HMS review blog. And I don't think my photography skill is any close to Chuck and Andrew haha

Ditto. It is like a drug for me to live vicariously through the Moore Bettah uke owners. The more I see, the more I want to see.

Here are some home pics of my new Moore Bettah tenor, the "Ki Uke". Chuck has super pics on his website (http://www.moorebettahukes.com/GALLERY.html). My wife Ginny took some really nice shots I'd like to share here. I hope to add a soundfile link soon.

Wow, Craig you must be very proud! I would imagine that everyone who has a Moore Bettah is very proud. I met one gentleman in TBUS who has one, OMG, that thing is a piece of art, it sounds like an angel harp! He even proudly wears a Moore Bettah T shirt! If I can find a pic of it, I'll post it on here, I don't think he has...
