View Full Version : String playing next fret

I got an Islander MT-4 for Christmas, and all has been fine up until recently, when I noticed that while fretting the 13th fret on both the G and A strings, the string actually is resting on the 14th fret and so plays that note. This is the only fret with this issue; the 13th is fine on the C and E strings, and all other notes play properly on G and A. Can anyone suggest a solution? I use Aquila Nylgut strings, and I have tried replacing them, but to no result. I would hope this isn't a fretboard issue, as I've only had the uke for a month.

Thank you for any help

Sure sounds like a high fret. Are you able to return it? If not, may have to have frets checked and perhaps leveled.

I emailed Hawaiin Music Supply (where I got it) two days ago, and haven't yet heard anything back about possible solutions. I'm abroad in Scotland right now, so I would have a hard time returning it...I hope it doesn't come to that.

Yes, it does sound like the 14th fret has lifted on the ends. Its a simple fix for any luthier.
