Any tenor guitar players?

As a quick intro, I play baritone ukulele but I tune it in 5ths GDAE. It essentially acts as an octave mandolin with nylon strings; I use The E, A, G and B strings from a pack of medium-gauge classical guitar strings, so it's 2 nylon 2 wound.

It got me thinking hmm...this is basically a tenor guitar. So I took a Les Paul, removed the 1st and last tuners and tuned the instrument GDAE. Boom; electric tenor.

This is obviously a bit of a "rigged" tenor, though, and I'd really like to pick up a proper, well-built electric soon. The only one that I know of is the Eastwood Warren Ellis model, which a friend of mine has and plays quite well, but it's mass-produced.

So...any tenor players out there? Recommendations for an electric tenor?

I really like tenor guitars. I tune them to DGBE baritone tuning.

I have an Ozark acoustic-electric, solid spruce top tenor guitar, and the Warren Ellis electric tenor guitar by Eastwood.

Here are some videos I use it in:

(Ozark - plugged into VOX bass amp, Warren Ellis at the end for the solo - plugged into a VOX AC4TV tube amp)

I don't know what you mean by "mass produced".
Your Les Paul is more "mass produced" than the Eastwood tenor guitar.
Eastwood is a relatively small company that focuses on high quality products, in smaller quantities. The Warren Ellis Signature is made in Korea, and is superb quality for its price.

If you don't want "mass produced", you're looking at custom builds that will cost well over a thousand.

The person in this thread got a custom Strat style tenor guitar by Soares'y Guitars:

This maker will be able to make you a custom tenor guitar:

Some interesting options are also available here:

Altneratively, Risa makes some steel-string electric ukuleles in tenor ukulele size that can be tuned like tenor guitar:

I started with a Blueridge BR-40T acoustic tenor guitar and then bought a Soares'y electric tenor. (I'm the guy who started one of the threads Kissing posted). Mike lets you pick from a variety of guitar bodies, and he builds a tenor neck onto it. The neck feels great (although I had to sand down a small sharp area on the nut), is great to work with and builds a very nice instrument, especially at the price point. I haven't used it that much only because I haven't had a chance to buy an amp yet, but I've played it some unplugged and have been enjoying it.

Martin O18-T from the early 70's. I have it tuned like a baritone now, but I have had it tuned CGDA and GDAE, I change it around whenever I feel like it. I play mandolin but I can't chop the tenor. I'll probably go back to the GDAE next, its the most"comfortable".

I had a Warren Ellis Signature Tenor by Eastwood Guitars with a tortoiseshell pickguard, in mandolin tuning. I thought of it as a large, fretted, bow-less violin that resembled the Fender Mustang. ;) Played really nicely after an initial setup. I liked the wider than normal spacing between the strings afforded by the modified bass bridge as it allowed for better finger-picking control, although some traditionalists hate this fact. It sounded best played clean through a tube amp and with a distortion pedal through the same clean channel. Sonically though I couldn't bond with it, as deep down I'm a guitarist at heart, so regrettably sold it and got a Duo-Sonic instead. Nonetheless it's a great electric tenor guitar, is gorgeous to look at and holds its value well. So, if you're remotely interested in going down this path, get one!

Mmm Mm, I love my Warren Ellis tenor guitar.

Initial setup was a bit high, so I took it to the local guitar luthier.
They set it up slick and perfect. I have mine set up with D'addario Chrome flatwounds ("Jazz" strings).
Love the mellow, warm tone.

The neck is perfect for me - kinda feels like a tapered 4-string classical guitar (if that makes any sense).

My only bother is that one of the fretmarkers is different to how you would expect on guitar/uke, since the instrument was initially built to be a "tenor" guitar.
Confuses me all the time

I've played tenor banjo for about 10 years now in several dixieland bands. My first Ukulele was a baritone that I tuned as a tenor guitar using the strings that came on it. I bought a Gold Tone TG-10 tenor guitar and it works fine but I can't get to the higher frets like on the tenor banjo. I bought a used Ibanez Mikro (3/4 scale electric) ($60.00) and strung it like a tenor guitar and it works well. I can always convert it back if I wish.
