What a strange trip playing the uke has been.

Last Tuesday we played for an acquaintance on her 98th birthday (she was a singer and dancer that played uke in Miami in the later 30s). We started playing Dream by Johnny Mercer, and she says “I sing that song before I go to bed each night” and got all teared up.

Then today we were playing on the street and our ex-governor Mark Sanford walks up. We played Tax man blues when he left.

Sure beats watching TV.

Was he hiking the Appalachian Trail? Or perhaps he thought you were playing a charango and thought he might ought to get to know you better?

This thread needs to be renamed "For those with ties to South Carolina!" Everyone else thinks we are off our rockers... which might be true, but not for this reason! :)

If South Carolinians play uke as well as they cook Southern food, the world can think what it wants.

I have no idea what you wierdo SC'ers are on about...from the title I was expecting a thread about mushrooms or licking toads...

I remember the Lizard Man. I used to have a test phone account at work named "Lizard Man" back when he was being sighted. I would call folks from it, had lots of fun. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lizard_Man_of_Scape_Ore_Swamp

Yum Grits!!! I eat them as a treat on weekends for breakfast. There's a local guy I get them from that grinds them up on an old mill he restored.

Course Yellow Grits make a great Shrimp and Grits.

Maurice now sells his yellow BBQ sauce online if you ever need a gallon.
