Most (all?) baritones I've tried sounded pretty darn good regardless of price. That isn't something I can say about smaller sized ukes, especially sopranos and concerts.
Just wondering if larger-sized instruments are more forgiving in terms of design & manufacture

Great question! I have heard that the hardest uke to build well, the most fickle soundwise, is the soprano.

Let's see what the uke glitterati have to say about this. Cheers, brother Paul.

I'd like to know the answer too. Because the cheapie Barrys I have played (and I'm NO expert) have sounded pretty darn good to me. Why?

Also, it seems like good guitar makers also generally make good Barrys. Is it because of the similarity in the build?

Is it easier to build a baritone ukulele with decent intonation than a soprano ukulele with decent intonation?

Absolutely.

Intonation is about percentages. A half mm error in a soprano will stick out and sound terrible (larger percentage) where as a half mm error in a baritone will not be anywhere near as audible (smaller percentage).
