I am looking at some tone wood for a 6-string custom.
The luthier suggested Hawaiian Pheasant wood for a special looking uke.
It does look very very cool and unique. Anyone have that wood in a uke or build one with it?

No personal experience, but here's a clip from Terence's dreamukes: http://www.dreamukes.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/2012-tenor-cedar-pheasant.mp3 it's a Maestro tenor with a cedar top.

Obviously, the build will affect the tone (in a Black Bears sound like Black Bears way, I mean). If it's any help, I think that pheasant wood is spectacular.

You'll post a build thread, right? (Looking forward to it!)

JC Clark will be building a 6 string for me. I'm trying to figure what wood to use.
Mark (Spanky) Gutierrez had a nice review video of a 6 string JC built for him.

I liked his 6 string and was impressed with other ukes he has built. http://jcclarkukuleles.wordpress.com/

I have only used Pheasant wood once, but it was very nice to work with. The wood is hard, bends well and has the same feel and qualities as Brazilian rosewood. The wood I had was like glass and rang like a bell when tapped. I wish I had more.
