A lot of us know that actress Zooey Deschanel plays the ukulele.
But I don't think this picture has been brought to attention in UU yet:

Just out of curiosity, what ukulele is it?
At a glance, it looks a bit like a mahogany Lanikai.. ?

It is hard to tell; but looks like a Lanikai to me. I'm as big a fan of Lanikais as anyone (I own two) but if I was a celebrity and getting my picture taken I would want to be holding a $1,000 uke.

Well there you go and thanks for the enlargements. Its a laminated mahogany Lanikai.

Tenor size by the looks of it.

What ukulele?

The part of her that isn't clothing, hair or skin.

Oh. Right. Gottcha.

I've been a fan of Miss Deschanel's ukulele endeavors for a while now. A friend's young daughter just took up the ukulele thanks to Zooey's influence.

And as an aside, It's nice to see her playing a ukulele that's not a muckety-muck high-end something or other. We can't all drive Lamborghini's.

My thought exactly. :agree:

I see what you did there :)

Thanks for posting the bigger picture, I see now that the headstock clearly eads Lanikai!

That is in fact a lanikai. I have seen her play a vintage martin s-o and a mya moe however. To me it looks like she is about to sign this one.

The Kiwaya K-Waves are no longer in production, and it is somewhat rare to see a second-hand one for sale.

However, I will direct you to two alternatives which may float your boat:

http://www.etsy.com/listing/70131364/tele-style-tenor-ukulele

http://www.earnestinstruments.com/tululele.html

Unfortunately.. a bit expensive.

On the other end of the spectrum, it's far too cheap:

(and not particularly good quality)

The earnest are nice, though don't have the money. Plus, I think I'm monogamous with ukuleles... But who knows

Thanks for the links. I knew the Kiwaya wasn't made anymore. I'll have to check out those alternatives. That etsy seller has a lot of interesting ukes.

Looks like Ms. Deschannel is holding a Lanikai LU-21 T. Just looking at the mahogany with the white binding. And it looks to be a Tenor size uke. So that's my guess.

Zoey is awesome as can be, and the fact that she plays the uke is wonderful

@MrEWorm If you find it was a 24 hour case of the UAS flu, please let me know. The k-wave is on my wishlist. Cheers!

I think you are right about it being flipped. She does a lot of videos for her hellogiggles site on what I assume is a macbook.

I'll probably use it on a Seasons video. I've used 4 of my ukes there this year already.

From earlier comments here, I take it that Zoey is considered an exceptional beauty. She's not bad... But her looks are very typical of young women here in Catalonia. Those drooling over her on this thread would drown in their own drool if they came to Catalonia ;)

Having said all that, Zoey does have a nice voice ;)
