Hi Guys,
i recently finished my uke build with pete howlett, and when building i installed a passive pickup in my tenor uke.
I am looking to purchase a amplifier for my uke, i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions about what i should buy? Price range (0-200, $0-$300)
I was told to look for an acoustic amplifier by some guy in a music shop. And it doesnt matter if it has onboard effects cos id prefer to use pedals.
if you wouldnt mind sending me a link that would be awesome!

thanks guys
Sam

Sam, just did a search on acoustic amps (http://www.ukuleleunderground.com/forum/search.php?searchid=308742) and amps (http://www.ukuleleunderground.com/forum/search.php?searchid=308745) in general, several threads that may be helpful. You might also look into a LR Baggs Para Acoustic DI (http://www.lrbaggs.com/html/products/preamps_paradi.shtml). I like the Rolands and Crates, probably a little more than what your budget allows, but that's just me. Good luck in your search.

As you clearly like doing things yourself why not look at an Epiphone Valve Junior. They are a 5 watt valve amp either combo or head and a fantastic amp as it comes but if you search on google you will find hundreds of websites dedicated to modifying them to suit your own taste. I modded mine to be voiced like a Fender amp, lots of clean headroom, but there are plans out there which will show you how to voice like a Marshall or a Vox too. The Epiphone forum is a good place to start but be warned it is VERY addictive!
Oh, they are only 91 from Thomann.
Ian.

Acoustic amps are usually suitable for good quality ukulele reproduction. I have over 4 dozen amps of all varieties and added a new lineup of acoustic amps to my arsenal this year. Here's a thread on the subject:

Yeah I saw the light when I switched from electric to acoustic type amping. All I have is 30watt Kustom and it really opened up the uklectic sound. These acoustic instruments need proper amping. And I'm sure many gear freaks would say I'm still not amping proper, but it does the job so far. I put it up on speaker stands so as not to annoy the neighbors.

Ric, you have the best collection of gear I know. I agree about the acoustic amps. My favorite is the Fender Acoustasonic 30

Here's a link:

For a beginner, this looks pretty decent for the money.

This one might suit the OP's questions:
