VOX Mini Amp for a ukulele

It's an electric guitar amp, so it's not the best choice if you want a pure, acoustic ukulele tone.
But on some settings, it should be clean enough to come close.
And you have a wide selection of various effects built-in which would result in some interesting "electric" tones.

If you want a cleaner, more natural tone - better to stick with acoustic amps.. or even bass amps.

Agreed. Nothing wrong with them per se - they are a lot of fun, as are Roland Micros, but depends what you want. I prefer mine through a Marshall acoustic amp, or through a Baggs acoustic box into our mixer.

For the same money as a Vox Mini3, you can get a Kustom Powerwerks PW50 P.A. System:

It shows a list price of $159 bucks, but they sell them for $99 bucks:

The frontal shows the two 4.5” drivers and the high frequency horn:

You can also note the rugged construction and the protective steel speaker grill. In addition, each corner is protected.

The rear view shows the three channels, controls, inputs and outputs. I was asked if the XLR and ¼” inputs could be used at the same time, so I plugged a microphone and instrument into both jacks on both channels. All can be used at the same time:

One of the long sides has a carrying handle and the other side has four rubber feet:

The bottom has a speaker stand adaptor and four rubber feet:

Here it is shown mounted on an OnStage speaker stand:

I liked the first one enough to purchase a second one. I almost always have one loaned out. Hula halau’s like to use a microphone for announcing and an MPR/CD player for their music when musicians are not available. There are no effects onboard, but I generally prefer to use my systems “dry” - without effects.

I now own six of them. One pair stays in a club in San Clemente, where we have a weekly Sunday kanikapila. Ric

The Mini3 has a clean setting, designed for acoustic electric instruments and keyboards:

"• A new non-distorting clean model – ideal for acoustic-electric instruments and keyboards"

I find this setting to sound similar to the Acoustic setting on my Roland MicroCube's. Ric

Ric, sorry to be dense, but just to clarify: in your opinion, does the use of the active D.I. box preamp you mentioned above improve the acoustic sound for both the Mini3 (using the clean setting) and the Roland MicroCube (using the Acoustic setting)?

Thanks for the recommendations in this thread!

I just ordered the Vox Mini3 for my new k-wave LP-style uke and I think my partner in crime is getting the Kustom Powerwerks PW50 P.A. for his place.

A smaller amp is on my list of wants as I hate lugging my big one around but often wish for some amplification at jams otherwise I can't even hear myself over all the guitars.
