Hello,

I have just started learning the uke, and came across a website called rocketukulele.com claiming to teach you ukulele in 30 days? has anyone and info on them sound to god to be true.

thanks

I'm not a fan of those marketing approaches. There are so many of them out there.

Of course, it all comes down to: what does "learn" mean. You're not going to be done studying the instrument in 30 days,
no matter how good the material is. Most of us spend a lifetime trying to grow on an instrument.

So, they start out with the use of some regrettable words. [learn+30days] However, that's not to say that there aren't
good aspects of the material. I don't know.

If you Are looking for methods, you might want to take a look at the Hal Leonard method. I don't have it, but the reviews online
seem to be very positive about that method.

I think they sell Viagra on Rocketukulele too, don't they?

You can learn to play ukulele in less than 30 days on this site and YouTube.

Free.

I can "teach you to play ukulele" in 30 minutes. Acquiring the skills to play the ukulele well enough that people actually want to hear you will take far longer, and your native talent, prior musical experience, determination, and perspiration are the deciding factors in exactly how much longer.

Exactly...................................

I had looked at their site last month too, and the disqualifying factor was that the "special offers" is programmed to always "expire" very shortly after the date you load the page. "Itsme" had noticed the same in the above linked thread, so they have been doing it that way for a while. It's not a lot of cash, but after a month I am still drowning in free material. A lot of what you need to do is practicing anyway, which doesn't take money, just time. (I'd have subscribed to UU+, but I keep getting a PayPal error and I haven't received a response to my inquiry yet.)

I wouldn't risk it. You can learn the basics from countless youtubers for free.

I never get when people ask if they can learn ukulele at "x" website on this forum. I mean, to get here you need to go past the 100+ uke lessons and 30+ song lessons on the front page.

youtube!

Don't waste your money. youtube has literally hundreds of tutorials from beginner to advanced for FREE. Mike Lynch has many videos for all skill levels. He's a wonderful teacher. There are a few sites with songs for all levels too. druke.com, scorpexuku.com, and ukesterbrown. Heck folks learned this instrument long before the internet. How lucky are we to have this valuable tool for free. Log onto youtube and have fun.

Hello,
...sound to god to be true.
Yeah, anything that sounds like a deity is suspect... ;-)

Most of those approaches are scams. They suck you in and make you pay, pay, pay for additional courses. Some have fine print that keep charging your credit card every x months. Here's the scoop:

It takes many, many hours of practice to play any instrument. That's the whole magic of learning: practice.

I don't think it's a scam at all. Looks like someone has come up with a digital based teaching system. From the looks of it, a pretty thorough system. Will it work for you, or me or the next person? I'll bet it does. But, I'm sure you still have to put in the time. Will they honor the guarantee? No doubt whatsoever. If they take Paypal, they are agreeing to Paypal's rules, and people who demand a refund will get it.

I'll bet their business model will work for them, too. The development looks like it's been done (although, did anyone else notice on their site they actually have guitar chords cut and pasted in from their guitar site?). All they have to do is sell it. I say give it a try. It sure is cheap. I think I'll buy it.

30 Days x 24 hours equals 720 hrs. So here's your plan, practice 2 hours a day using any combination of youtube + songbooks + groupmeetings + bootcamp, etc. and by next christmas you should be well on your way and also having some crazy fun getting there. That's LESS than 720 hours of practice! Why would anyone want to burn themselves out? This is supposed to be fun.

Good and bad

I don't have any problem paying for an online course--no different than buying a book or even a live class. There's something about this one though that just feels icky. It's all the typical Internet marketing stuff applied to our pure world of uke.:)

Would love to hear an actual review from someone who's done it.
