Hello, and welcome to the 58th Season of the Ukulele!! My week! I am really exited and I hope everyone has as much fun as I have.

THEME: Ok, this week's theme is going to be instrumentals. I looked through the other seasons and I realized there had never been a season focused just on instrumentals. So why not!

RULES:

1.Ukulele must be the main instruments.
2. Entries must be new videos and must state they are for the 58th Season of the Ukulele.
3. No Muti-tracking, I just want a straight video.
4.Originals would be great.
5 You can sing with your instrumentals, your instrumental would be effectively your strumming pattern.
6. Bonus tracks can be new or old videos.
7. Your first video is your entry unless you otherwise state.
PRIZES:

1st Prize: A Hohner harmonica neck holder.
2nd Prize: Set of Lanikai Aquila Nylgut strings for concert ukuleles.

JUDGING:

Judging will be done by me and my family.

Entry Playlist

Bonus Playlist

EXTRA NOTES: If you already have a harmonica holder or do not have concert ukulele, let me know and we will put the prizes into a drawing.

Thanks, Andre, hope you are feeling better:

We are not worthy!!

Wonder if there's gonna be a bunch of Jake covers? Probably not cuz so hard to play!!

OK, I made my comments just hearing the first few note but now just finished watching it and that is so cool. Usually they start with the simple acts and build up the crescendo for the show stoppers but you definally raised the bar. I was gonna play Mary Had a Little Lamb but scratch it now...back to the drawing board. LOL

Thanks, Andre! A nice choice of theme and glad to have you hosting. Be sure to post your own video.

Nice theme Andre and what a brilliant way to kick it off Christian!

After recording Sir Duke with Saskia for Season 57 a couple of days ago, I've been working on an instrumental version of the same song. I recorded it this afternoon for the Dutch ukulele forum www.ukeclub.nl but I'll post it here as a bonus.

I've been twisting my fingers on that horn break the last two days...

.

Super cool- have you heard Adam Rafferty's version?

Fearless ~ Pink Floyd

Inspired theme this week, Andre.
Much respect to you for being the first host to do instrumentals.

It bumps us out of our comfort zone, and is especially helpful for people like me who vocally can barely carry a tune in a bucket.

Clever loophole for folks who still want to sing and strum, the challenge to bring your "A" game to the strumming / picking interludes.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

For my entry I submit this Pink Floyd number I've been noodling on the 8-string for a long time, got inspired to work it into semi-coherence with this challenge.

I edited it down to a "radio-friendly" three minute version by fading in and out.

"Fearless" was on the album Meddle, which came out in the autumn of 1971, the year I left home for college. We listened to it a lot it the dorm.

Old folks may unaccountably find themselves wanting to sing "You'll Never Walk Alone" on the fade-out. The original had a recording of the Liverpool football club choir spliced into the song.

Nice. As a former trumpeter, I always appreciate when people work the horn parts into their arrangement.

OK. Here is an original written for this season - It is called 10 Thumbs but after seeing the other fantastic entries (WOW!) I think I should have called it Eleven Thumbs.

Um. My instrumental has words.

It’s hard to play when you’ve got ten thumbs
They get in the way when you’ve got ten thumbs
You lose your way when you’ve got ten thumbs
What’ll they say when you’ve got ten thumbs

It’s hard to play when you’ve got ten thumbs
So hard to play when you’ve got ten thumbs
They get in your way when you’ve got ten thumbs
Some fingers would be nice.

This is an original instrumental called "Ukephoria". I took my username on UU and YouTube from it. I wrote this in 1982 on a Martin soprano.

A couple of years ago, I deconstructed this song in my head for the first time, and realized that most of the song is moving various minor chord shapes up and down the neck, while keeping the G string open as a staccato drone (like the dip-dip-dip-dip rhythm guitar in a lot of New Wave). Sometimes there's tension between the open G and the minor chord, and sometimes that tension resolves.

I expect to have a few bonus songs this week, because I've been practicing several instrumentals lately.

Ok well here's my entry. I'm NO instrumentalist and I'm not even sure if this counts as an instrumental. I'd like to know if people think that this would class as an instrumental or not. I haven't mastered melodies yet. There is a little humming and whistling in there. Its one of my favourite songs of all time (Creep - by Radiohead). I'm not even sure whether this band ever made it in the USA but they were very popular in the UK. For some reason it appears to be out of sync and I haven't a clue why as it was done in one take just me and my Uke (definitely no multitracking - apart of course from my dramatic intro). I wasn't going to enter this week so hope this will do.

Oh and I urge you to view the original HERE if your not familiar with the tune.

I was getting tired of trying to figure out my new instrumental for this week's challenge so started just playing. I realized I have never recorded the complete song so I decided to add it as a bonus. Piano Forte in Low G
