Ahhh... so I'm bored working on a Saturday morning here in Hawaii nei and want to share pics of my Kerry Char tenor uke that I had built a year ago or so. Kerry was awesome to work with and the ukulele turned out awesome in sound as well as aesthetics. I would recommend him for a custom uke anytime!

Soundboard: Lutz Spruce
Slotted Headstock

that is really awesome. not too many ukes with african blackwood back/sides--this looks great, and I bet it sounds great. many in the guitar world consider african blackwood to be even more desirable than brazilian rosewood. Can we get a sound sample?

Hey Steve, yeah I'll try to get one up sometime this weekend if I can borrow a video camera from my friend. Needs to be re-strung too, debating trying it re-entrant as I've had it low G (Ko'olau Alohis) since receiving it.

Bruddah Stan: Been hiding out, I baby this uke a bit too much I think. I'll bring it to HMS when we meet up?

TheOnlyUkeThatMatters: Yeah, his ukes sound great. I've only played one other Char, a koa tenor, and it was great!

experimentjon: Mahalos! I hadn't seen many ABW ukes, so decided to inquire with Kerry as to what he thought of the idea. He had built one previously and it turned out great with the Lutz Spruce top, so I went with that. The only ab is in the Char logo, fret markers and thin ring around the rosette.

We have 3 of them coming soon. We'll do sound samples also. We should have more coming after that too. Talented luthier and I'm glad we can show his work soon.

Andrew, can I bring mine by and have someone do a PROPER sound sample? LOL Say Corey or Aaron perhaps? I don't have anything to record with other than my phone which needs to be replaced in a month when I can upgrade.

Len, I just ordered an baritone from Kerry Char!

Ooh what woods did you choose?

Dan Uke
04-29-2013, 06:25 AM
Adirondack spruce top and Brazilian Rosewood back and sides.

That should be awesome and really sound like a mini-guitar, especially baritone size! Did you ask about the ABW as that's supposed to better than BR these days...I have no idea but I'm sure you've given much thought to your build.

Your collection already looks great but you are trying to achive awesomeness!

Awesomeness is getting a puppy over the weekend!! I might have to change my avatar soon. :)

You still got a nice collection!!

I just looked up 1935 Gibson Roy Smeck Stage De Luxe J-45 and that's pretty cool...if you get a cutaway, then it would be awesomeness!!

I'm sorry for the lack of a sound sample after all this time. Have some issues on the homefront that needs to be addressed. I'll call up Andrew as soon as things calm down and set something up.

Nice combo! You'll have to post pics of the build process again, Don! Have you gotten all the details worked out on it yet? Cutaway? Nice Koa bindings? Lol -- Dan (yes, another Dan)

I'm glad to see this thread still alive Dan as this is definitely one of the cleanest ukes I've ever seen!! Everything you picked on this uke is so nice, except for the Aquilas. HAHAHA

Since you don't have a sound file, can you at least explain the sound. I just saw the NFL draft and every player is compared to someone, if you can do it that way, that'll be cool!
