When looking at tabs or forums, I see people talk about having a "Low G" string. How does one get a Low G string on their Uke? I play a lot of fingerstyle, so by what I've read, it seems my style of playing would be better suited with a low G. Is that incorrect?

Only been playing for 2 days now, so bare with me. :D

depending on the song you play, you may need to hit those lower notes that you can only get with a low G string. if you want to make your uke tuned to low G, go to a music store and see if they sell strings separate from the packs. ask for a wound D CLASSICAL string. this is important. the classical wound strings are metal wound nylons. whereas others are metal wound steel strings. these would cause too much stress on your uke and you may cause damage.

in the end, its all preference. i have several ukes and i keep one tuned to low G just for those times i need it.

You can also purchase prepackaged "low G" uke string sets.
