Inspirational links...
There are 100s and 100s of songs either written for or performed on The Muppet Show (http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Muppet_Show_Guest_Stars) itself, many of which included very famous guest stars singing very famous songs.

More? Don't forget the newer Muppets Tonight (http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Muppets_Tonight_Guest_Stars) with a whole host of other singing guest stars from the 1990s.

Then there's all the Muppet Movies (http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Muppet_Movies) of course which are all bursting with songs.

In fact here’s a list of all the songs (http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Muppet_Songs) The Muppets have ever done.

You still need more?
Don’t forget the other Henson creations... Sesame Street (http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Sesame_Street_Songs), Fraggle Rock (http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Fraggle_Rock_Songs), even Labyrinth (http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Labyrinth_Songs), they all count.

And there’s all the Muppet albums (http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Muppet_Albums) too!

There’s a LOT of choice once you start digging... as long as the Muppets (or any Henson characters) performed or recorded it somewhere you can have it :)

Muppets! I can do that! :)

I couldn't participate last week because my wife would have killed me if she ever saw the contest - we never had "our song" so I would have had to dip into the old "girls before her" category and that would not have resulted in peace in the family. LOL

Gee - Great Theme!
And you could always put your video in the Children's Songs thread as well if they are kids songs.
They did a lot of songs with guests which weren't kids songs so there is a HUGE selection of songs to do.
I know lots of their stuff has been done here at UU before - I am still mentally scarred from seeing too much of Eugene in a bath scene!
This is going to be FUN!

Mike, you really have quite a thing for those Muppets. This is going to be a great week. I've been banging my head against the wall trying to shoehorn a video in this week but it's out of my control. The Muppets week is going to be personal. There's a ton of tunes I love dearly on that list. I remember begging my mom to buy me the John Denver & The Muppets Christmas Album, which I still have and is still my second favorite Christmas album (next to Andy Williams). If I can, I will do a video each day this week.

Only second ;) We play it all the time every Christmas... it's #1 in our house. I used to work for an online CD retailer and every Christmas we sold copies of that by the bucket load... it's a real hidden gem of a Christmas album. Looking forward to your entry, Denver-esque or otherwise.

Jazzbanjorex: COOOOKIEEE!!!!!!! That's a very fine rendition of this wonderful song... very very well done Sir. The ending of the video made me smile.

PatriciaPDX: I love this, beautifully done... just the kind of thing I like to hear relaxing in my local pub with a pint in my hand! And extra muppet points for the Yeehaw!!!

TheUkeBloke: Gmagnificent. "Call me bison or okapi and I'll sue"... LOL... they don't write lyrics like that anymore. Tricky lyrics to get your tongue round I would imagine and loved the muppet picture inserts.

this is Beyond the blue horizon, it was the closing number in episode 406.
first take was ruined by a train going by and blasting his horn,
this was the second take, interrupted by a Chinook helicopter, Did start the second verse but realised it was the same as the first, so i thought i would end it with the chopper.

Unfortunately this was a bit rushed as I have little time today, and I realized after the fact that I skipped an entire verse, but I wanted to do this today. This is a bonus and as I mentioned in an earlier post, the John Denver & The Muppets Christmas album has always been one of my favorite albums for the season (I remember begging my mom to get it for me when I was kid). So here's a cover from that great album.

Also, I thought it would be a fitting tribute for the people of Boston today and a bit of a prayer for the future. As a fafther to two young kids it's hard to not think of them when I hear that an eight year old boy lost his life in that bombing. I also have a friend (my four year old's best friend's dad) who ran the marathon yesterday. Thankfully he crossed the finish line before the bomb went off.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DymimX1w0M

BTW, here are the lyrics to the verse I skipped. Doh.

For the truth that binds us all together
I would like to say a simple prayer
That at this special time you will have true peace of mind
And love to last throughout the coming year

I'm doing my bonus track first this week. A couple of years ago, Elvis Costello got together with Elmo on Sesame Street to sing "A Monster Went and Ate My Red Two". Depending on how much of a rock purist you are, it was either the greatest video ever made or the most horrific. At the time, I favorited it on YouTube. Two of my younger subscribers immediately un-subscribed, mortified that I made Sesame Street show up on their feed. A link to the original is below.

Here's another bonus video I made over the summer. There is a little bit of a back story to this one. My friend Kim who works with me in the circus, made a training video of her sting out some amazing handstands and some contortion poses as well, she's a great acrobat. I'm a clown in the circus we work for...so I made a video of me training this song..It's not as impressive as her video but it was a blast to make, hope ya'll enjoy:)

Fats Waller song made popular by Leon Redbone. Featured in [COLOR=#333333][FONT=arial]episode 423 of The Muppets.

Great stuff. Loveses Leon!

Another "bargain"?
Garbage written by Bill Steele but I got it from the Pete Seeger & Brother Kirk & Sesame Street album where Pete sings it with Oscar the Grouch. I don't think the Garbage problem has gone away.

Loved this - so far my favorite for this season and I'm not even that much of an environmentologist. :)

Heh, heh. Great video. But it must have been multi-tracked, I can't believe you had two of those big sombreros - one for you and one for Ruth! :)

UUSOTU 61 songs from the Muppets
this is Beyond the blue horizon, it was the closing number in episode 406.
first take was ruined by a train going by and blasting his horn,
this was the second take, interrupted by a Chinook helicopter, Did start the second verse but realised it was the same as the first, so i thought i would end it with the chopper.

I want to know how much you had to pay them to fly a Chinook over the house while you were singing about a blue horizon... :) Those puppies are not cheap to operate!

Tonight is a fantastic stroll down memory lane, thanks for that Mike.
Just after celebrating my 20th birthday with friends in college...one of whom I met because we both knew all the words to all Roger Miller's songs, he passed away.
The friend I would sing his songs with was to eventually be my wife (after some serious woo-ing) and if we had not already done them, his songs would have been the choice for "our song" week.
I have loved Roger Miller as long as I can remember, and it all began in 1979, when the craziest grown up I had ever seen graced season 3 episode 21 of the Muppets. I was immediately smitten at 7...and here I am at 40 trying to replicate the medley he played in the middle of that show. Hopefully I did it some justice, as always I had fun anyway.
So many Muppets moments made up the fabric of what I would turn into, and this was my favorite. This is a bonus I hope, as me and Mel are working on another song that makes a better duet.
Thanks for the opportunity, and thank you all for the entertainment so far this week.

Morning all... now what goodies have you uploaded for me while I've been tucked up in bed...

wee_ginga_yin: Fats Waller! Wonderful! I'm so pleased my season has brought out such a range of songs. Terrific performance and the reverb was spot on.

Sammybee: You certainly have got to love those Fraggles. We have a pet rat called Fraggle... she even looks like one... sort of. Anyway, a cracking bonus mate, very well played.

Sammybee: ... and a second bonus treat... Rainbow Connection!!! YAY!!! Just awesome. Who knew my day would start with a terrific performance of Rainbow Connection by a Chicago clown. How could my day start any happier? Gotta love UU :D

UkeyDave: LOVELY version of a classic. Some beautiful strumming there Dave. Point and click seems to have worked rather well if you ask me!

TCK: I laughed out loud 10 seconds in!!! Seemless integration mate... an inspired opening (and ending)! Another great song choice and you performed it perfectly. Really really like it.... you definitely did it justice.

decaturcomp: THAT was very very nice, some lovely chord structure. Lovely stuff Alan.

decaturcomp: And a wonderful bonus too!

pabrizzer: I used to love playing music with my Grandad... mostly the stylophone. He lost his arm as a young man which scuppered his musical ambitions but whilst the stylophone is not the most virtuosic instrument every made, he LOVED playing it to me and I loved listening. Bravo all 3 of you!!

WELL! I'm beginning to dread the thought picking one winner... you're all too good :)

This is my entry for the Season. My daughter's favorite movie growing up was "Muppet Treasure Island". She'd run around the back yard with her imaginary friends Gonzo, Rizzo, and Jim Hawkins. My wife and I love the movie, too. This is "A Professional Pirate", sung in the movie by Tim Curry (!) as Long John Silver, with a chorus of Muppet pirates. I sing this song with a friend every year on International Talk Like a Pirate Day (Sept. 19). I'm bummed that it's not clear in the video that I've adorned Molly's plush toy lobster with an eye patch and a hook on its claw.

I have a confession to make. Until this week i had never seen a Muppet Show. I have still not seen any of the Muppet movies. And I have never seen a Sesame Street episode. I was in college and grad school when the Muppet show came out. Why would I watch a kid's show? Especially since I didn't even own a television? I never had children (or for much of my life a television set) and these were just not shows I ever watched. I had SO much fun catching up with the Muppets this week. I laughed and laughed! Thanks for picking such a fun theme mikef. I truly enjoyed watching all those hilarious shows looking for a song. I may just do another one.

I found this one for you Mike... Do you still have a stylophone?
I most certainly do! In fact I have my Grandad's and a newer one (with THREE different sounds)... I suspect I may be digging it out for a future season. I'm not QUITE as good as that vid however!

Right then... entries... [gets excited]...

SailQwest: I know... so many songs to choose from right??! :) Cool version guys, very nicely done!

we tigers: I almost spluttered out my cup of tea at the end! LOL. Lovely lovely version and a Sesame Street original to boot. Great picking, and a lullaby vocal... bliss.

These two entries are exactly why I picked this theme (aside from a love of Muppety things)... back to back from Fever to Cookies... bravo everyone... that sort of diversity is exactly what I'd hoped for and you've all hit the mark perfectly.

uke4ia: Aha... Muppet Movies! Great Muppet voices my friend!!! I'm visualizing the film and characters as you're singing! Brilliant. And your puppeteering skills are rapidly becoming legendary!

myrnaukelele: That's made my day knowing I've shown someone a new fun world that is the Muppets! That's happened to me with other themes and I'm always the better for it. It's a very grey today in Wales so I'm jealous of your Alaskan blue skies. That was a great rendition... love it... and accompanied by bird song... how did you get them to do that?? ;)

thesillydave: Wahoo! Excellent bonus or THE song complete with the key change! Enjoy your trip to Kansas City you lucky scamp!

Well it's Friday... the week is drawing to it's conclusion... so come on guys... one big last push!!!

Country Gardens is a Morris Dance tune which was collected by Cecil Sharp in Oxfordshire in 1907. Australian composer Percy Grainger wrote a piano arrangement which was featured in episode 218 of the Muppet show. The tune again featured in episode 416 for a dance by the Trolls. The song was a hit in 1962 in the UK (but not the US) for American singer Jimmie Rodgers (no relation to the country singer of that name).

I've featured both the song and the original tune (played on descant recorder) on my video. The original words featured some birds (in particular) which are not found in England, so I changed some of the words to feature only flowers, insects and birds that are found here in England.

Instrumental of Elmo Didn't Mean To.
This is a beautiful little song IMHO. It is sung by Elmo after he has been a 'bad sport'.
I will include the address/link of the original song because if you haven't heard it it is worth a listen. The piano part is delicious and in the second part of the song this delightful clarinet joins in (there's a bowed double bass as well) - I think it's magic.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKUgX232Qwc
The chords aren't obvious (but lovely) and the arrangement is my own and not done as well as I can but I was over the number of takes I was doing and I wasn't improving.
There are no effects - it is just the acoustics of the room in the lighthouse keepers cottage built 1903. 40cm thick solid concrete block walls and very high ceilings with relatively small windows.

max2173: You were planning this for last week?!... what a crazy coincidence! The video editing was great and love the duck percussion! Bathrooms are traditionally a great place to record to get great acoustic sounds... but I've never seen anyone do from in the actual bath! Brilliant mate.

Well, this week has come and gone, and me and Melissa never really got anything down...
but my memory was jogged and I came up with another song the Muppets did.
Mike- I know it is a PITA, but can we make this my official entry? I don't really care if I win or anything, but if people go back and watch the playlist-I would rather leave them with this one, as silly as it is, because it encapsulates PRECISELY why I play the Ukulele.
It is for my dad, who always made these really goofy songs from his youth so much fun- I wish I could do all of them for the seasons, but man, I cannot hit those highs the way he can...
In any event- what a yuck I had with this one! Thanks for hosting a great week Mike.

We (as a group) are beginning to get really good at this. I want to offer this video as evidence. Now, Dave has always been a clever guy and a great playa, but this goes into the area of EnterTAINment in a way I just love. I can imagine a perfect world where this would be the next Gangnam Style or Star Wars Kid , or Sneezing Baby Panda.

My vote for most entertaining video like ever.

Greetings from Thailand!

My first week here is winding down and it's has been one of the best weeks of my life! Ironically, I don't think I know if I will have an official Season entry this week, a week that has been more ukulele-rich than any I can remember. See, I brought two ukes with me on this training program I am on, and seemingly half of my fellow students (we're a group of 42) are musicians themselves, but none of them brought instruments. Me and my two ukes have been very popular around the hotel. I've taught more people how to play the uke in this week than the rest of my life put together. Those people then went on to teach others, and we have a couple dozen new uke players born this week....

Maybe tonight, in our nightly jam sessions, we'll do the Muppets song I've prepared. If not, here's the video I just made today. I ended the video on a secluded beach where I was planning to sing Heard it Through the Grapevine, but then a horde of Korean tourists showed up.

Oh Mike! I was going to do you a bonus original song, with my daughter's soft toys (Teds, etc) standing in for Muppets. I've written the song and everything. I had today set aside for recording it and then my daughter and I were going to animate it for y'all. Unfortunately (you knew that was coming, didn't you?) I was picking something up off the floor this morning when I felt a sudden incredibly sharp pain in my back and collapsed onto the floor. My daughter had to help me up, I was in so much pain. Anyway, the long and the short of this is that I tried to walk it off (my usual cure for everything), but only seemed to make it worse. So, my wife drove me to the local doctor's surgery and I got diagnosed as having pulled a muscle in the small of my back (thank goodness it wasn't vertebra or disc related).

So, I've spent the entire day, so far, pumped full of muscle relaxant and painkillers (typing this on a portable in bed). Prognosis is a couple of days rest and I'll be fine again. Signs of aging, I guess :(

So, no video from me this week :( . I sincerely hope that I can do it one day soon and submit it as a late bonus. Meanwhile here are the lyrics:

I ainít no Muppet

CHORUS:
I ainít no Muppet, Iím nobodyís puppet
You canít control me and you donít own me!
No manipulation, no animation,
No commitments - has set me free!

I ainít as green as Kermit, Miss Piggy can confirm it!
Iím funnier than Fozzie, Iím not a kangaroo Aussie.
Iím straight and legal, like Sam the Eagle,
Waldorf and Statler think Iím a traitor.

CHORUS

Iím cooler than Zoot is, I know where my flute is!
More hip than Pepper, compared to me heís a leper!
I can do more gyrations, than all The Mutations!
Iím a nice guy like Scooter, who can fix your computer.

CHORUS

I'm more expressive than a Whatnot, let me show you what I got.
Rowlf the Dog he likes me, I pet him nightly.
Thog is scared of me, though he towers above me.
I can cook more dishes, than the Swedish Chef!

CHORUS

I've missed out on the last couple of weeks. Been fighting off a case of the flu that just refuses to completely go away. Haven't felt all that bad but my voice hasn't been songworthy. It's almost all back though so I thought I'd do this one. I'm really surprised this song hasn't shown up on the official playlist already.

If you can bear it, watch the puppet show below. Sorry for the off key singing. Have you ever tried to sing in different voices at different times with different people. Hah...what a joke. I put this together and was going to play the song over it. But that was clearly impossible once it was done.

I love this theme!!! The Muppets were a HUGE musical influence on me. Back when I was a kid I loved numbers such as, oh, the prairie dogs singing "Blue Skies" (thanks, Myrna!) and all those great standards, exquisitely performed. I'm pretty sure Harry Belafonte performing "Banana Boat Song" with the Muppets is one of the best television segments ever. So when mikef announced this theme I had a dozen or so songs I associate with the Muppets. Unfortunately I'm traveling this week, so I wasn't able to put much time into one or more videos, but I really, really wanted to show up! Well, here I am. Under-rehearsed, but here.

"Oh Babe, What Would You Say?" was performed in Episode 123 by Kaye Ballard and Thog. I hope you enjoy it! Oh, and those of you who have seen my videos... notice anything? :D

My last round up... I feel just a little bit sad...

Jazzbanjorex : Wahoo! Let's here it for Rainbow Connection! Wonderful version of a wonderful song... I found myself singing along this morning!

bonesigh: Yes yes yes!!! How did you get the REAL cookie monster to sing for you? BRILLIANT job.

Penguinofsorts: Superb version! LOVE IT!

TCK: Sure, I've swapped your entries, no worries. Your new entry was my fave muppet song as a kid... it was on the Muppet Show album that I used to play constantly. Funnily enough I grew up into a bass player too (until I discovered the uke of course). First rate job fella, the video editing was spot on too!

SailQwest: Very nice bonus, bravo guys! Loads of energy and a top vocal performance.

Oh Mike! I was going to do you a bonus original song, with my daughter's soft toys (Teds, etc) standing in for Muppets. I've written the song and everything. Oh no! Hope you're feeling better Berni... we'll miss your performance but how cool to have a lyrics only entry... that's new :) I hope we get to see it some day, sounds awesome.

ukuleledaveey: Animal! I was wondering if he'd show up! Top performance matey... a terrific song with some perfect strumming. And remote control video controls... very swish!

J-Peg: Glad you're on the mend and what a post-flu triumphant return! A splendid performance of a total classic. Such a lovely song isn't it.

TheOnlyUkeThatMatters: I will never tire of hearing this song... a beautiful and quite a stirring performance Sir.

Joko: There's a quality vocal performance going on there! Brilliant job. I mean how cool to sit in my wee Welsh office this morning listening to a track recorded by a bunch of lovely musicians in Thailand. Got to love the Seasons huh!?

Ukuleledaddy: Likewise Sean... same goes with Toucan Sam and the Fruitloops! AWESOME! Looks like there was much fun to be had on Satruday night! I had a night in... I feel left out ;)

bonesigh: I've switched the entries and made this your bonus... no worries. That was BRILLIANT! Don't underestimate yourself... LOVED IT! How many puppets do you guys own? LOL at the bloopers... honestly, that was fantastic!

ukuLily Mars: The Harry Belafonte episode is legendary isn't it! Beautiful version... Thog would see this and melt at your feet I'm sure! New uke??

SailQwest: SWEEEEEEET bonus... I'm glad The Muppets inspired such prolificacy :)

ukuloonie: Awww I like this a lot... a marvellous performance with exceptional vocals. A touch of the Paul Simon about it.

Sammybee: [claps enthusiastically] Just wonderful, I couldn't stop grinning all the way through. Hilarious!!!!

And there we have it! 40 official and 21 bonus entries later and it's all over! I have had THE best time, thank you SO MUCH to each and every one of you. I cannot believe the level of response, support, quality and diversity of the entries and we're going to have a seriously tough time picking a winner I can tell you, I genuinely wish you could ALL win, you certainly deserve to.

So just to recap... my wife and I will pick out an overall winner in the next couple of days and then two runners-up will be selected by the Muppet Labs Random Uke Generator. And there is of course also The Golden Kermit Award and I dare say we'll make a few special commendations too. Watch this space and we'll be as quick as we can!!!

Thank you to our wonderful host Mikef too for your nice comments. Cookie likes to perform at our house. He's in the neighborhood. He also hands out Halloween candy every year and the kids just eat it up, if Cookie doesn't first. You know I didn't realize just how many puppets I had until this season. I still haven't counted them! My gosh I couldn't fit 'em all on the couch! Guess I have PAS and well as UAS. Great week by the way (:

It's a good thing you hung onto them. It's become very hard to find hand puppets with mouths that open and close. When my nephews and niece were young, I used to give them puppets as gifts. It was easy to find quality puppets, even without the Internet. Quincy Market in Boston had a store called Gepetto's Workshop that only sold puppets. Now my nephews' kids are getting old enough to play with puppets, and I have a hard time finding any worth buying.

That was Muppet week and our very special guest star winner is (winners badge plus misc uke and muppet badges AND 50 of your chosen design)...
[drum roll Animal please]...
uke4ia - Professional Pirate (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wssO_hF5oIw&feature=share&list=PL6T4thZnaqDQTaGolQdKDuOJltEdqUkpY)... Yaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!! Great song & performnace, hilarious puppet, super impressions and a pirate costume... what's not to love!

It was SO tough to just pick one as, every video was just excellent, and the diversity just made it even harder. So congratulations to a worthy winner. But also congratulations to everyone... I know I'm going to keep playing the playlist for months to come.

The Muppet Labs Random Uke Generator (ok a piece of paper, some numbers and a pet rat) excelled at choosing two very deserving runners up (runners up badge plus misc uke and muppet badges)...
bonesigh - Cookie Wants To Visit The Moon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wo8hAWz3VDs&feature=share&list=PL6T4thZnaqDQTaGolQdKDuOJltEdqUkpY)
erivel - Sesame Street (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGa1V_9ORH0&feature=share&list=PL6T4thZnaqDQTaGolQdKDuOJltEdqUkpY)

And last but not least, for a lovely & gentle rendition, The Golden Kermit Award badge for Rainbow Connection goes to...
TheOnlyUkeThatMatters (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NKRx4Yaa3k&feature=share&list=PL6T4thZnaqDQTaGolQdKDuOJltEdqUkpY)

But we're not finished yet! We have extra commendations to two videos that we simply couldn't let pass unrewarded. The first got the week off to such a fantastic start with an outrageously fun performance that I must have watched it very day since! The second goes to a duo that ALWAYS deliver brilliant performances but their dedication and professionalism this week has surpassed their own exceptionally high standards. The spirit of Jim Henson "mUUpeteer" commendation badges, of course, go to...
pabrizzer - Mahna Mahna! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_xvluPT7Sg&feature=share&list=PL6T4thZnaqDQTaGolQdKDuOJltEdqUkpY)
The Ukelites - For What It's Worth (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhfwtRA2mTg&feature=share&list=PL6T4thZnaqDQTaGolQdKDuOJltEdqUkpY)

Here's a mock-up of what you guys have won (plus uke4ia gets the 50 badges of his choice of design)... PM me your addresses etc and we'll get them out to you asap!

Wembley Fraggle's "That's Why You Should Learn to Love a Wimp"
and my all-time favorite Sesame Street moment -- the "Monsterpiece Theater" version of "Fiddler on the Roof". "In our little village, we have many fiddlers on the roof. How do we keep track of how many fiddlers are on the roof? That I can tell you in one word: Addition!"
