I am a 3 month Newbie. I would like to go to a luthier to have my plastic nut/saddle apgraded to bone. (It is an entry level Uke, but I want to keep it...............you can only have one "first" ukulele)

I see inexpensive bone on-line. Should I go for that, or should I order from Bob C. as a sort of "quality control" insurance policy?

The bone nut saddles from online sellers Bruceweiart and Taisamlu are just fine. Never had a problem with them. In fact the luthier John Copley who I have just bought a beautiful tenor from told me he sources his bone nuts and saddles from the 2 sellers I have just mentioned.

The bigger issue is after you receive the bone nuts/saddles. It takes a little skill and experience to fit them and fine tune them so you would need to hire someone experienced anyway.

I would use what the luthier wants to use. You either trust him/her or you don't.
