I bought this unusual uke in an ebay auction that didn't attract too much attention. The seller buys vintage ukes, refurbishes them, and then does abalone and MOP headstock inlays. The one on my uke is derived from auana hula dancers, and I think she's adorable. I bought it for $103.

The uke is mahogany with some marks of use. It's a Kay, probably from the 1960s. Its design is plain, but now that it's got such a pretty headstock, the plainness is a plus. I put Worth brown medium strings on it, and it's a good, boomy sound, though not special or particularly resonant. What's special is this wonderful artwork that really captures attention. It's a beater uke with terrific style!

Well done, Ginny.

I behaved myself and read your description before scrolling down to the pics. I was skeptical about how the inlay would look, but wow, it's classy! Looks like it should have always been there.

Good score.

It was advertised as a Kay brand, Nickie, built back when soprano ukes all looked pretty traditional. Harmony has the same shape.
