O.K. I have to tell someone about this before I bust. I have made cigar box ukes for the last few years and finally stopped making them. But I kept my last tenor scale cbu for me to keep. I posted pics a while back here to show it. William H. Macy has always been one of my all time favorite actors and he was on Wild hogs playing a uke and it got me started playing the uke. He is now in Ok. producing and directing a movie called Rudderless, with felicity huffman lawrence fishburne. Some filming is in guthrie north of here and we always go in a coffee shop there to pick up our grand daughter to baby sit. So Saturday we picked up Georgia and I took the cbu in there and asked if Bill Macy shows up to give him the uke. Today while I'm at work he called me!!!!! May not be a big deal to some folks but it was to me. He said it was very bright and had a wonderful tone and he said it was awesome. No one seemed to know he was a uke player. O.K. I just had to brag because nothing like this ever happens to me. Phil

Good for you for getting one of you ukes into the hands of one of Hollywood's coolest guys. I think it would be perfect if he played it on an upcoming episode of Shameless!

Thanks mr.Moore, I couldn't get that lucky but I can dream. Yes he's very cool. He said he's a part time wood worker also. He said he likes off the wall and different instruments. I said well its pretty off the wall! I can also dream about getting one of your fantastic instruments!!! I fall in love with everyone of them I see posted here.

Love Shameless. WHM's character is despicable. Amazing story. So cool that he plays the uke. Just saw some youtube clips and the one from Oprah is hilarious and very clever.

Ok I saw that too. I saw her on an episode of Scrubs I think, she had a uke then too! Here's a real kicker: one of WHM's girls is named Georgia Grace and we picked up our grand daughter in Guthrie who is named Georgia Grace! That is weird!

That's awesome!!! WHM is really fantastic, truly one of the great American actors.

I'm always thrilled when I hear a celeb mention the uke with reverence. I listen to a comedy/interview podcast called "Nerdist" and both Patrick Warburton (Tick, Rules of Engagement) and Nick Offerman (Parks & Rec) have brought up ukuleles.

Patrick got turned onto it by Eddie Vedder, he's a massive Pearl Jam/EV fan so he picked up a uke. http://www.nerdist.com/2013/03/nerdist-podcast-patrick-warburton/

Nick is a high level woodworker (which is also part of his character on Park's and Rec) and considers Luthiers to be a real cream of the crop when it coems to wood working, masters of the art right alongside fine furniture makers. So he's in the process of learning luthier skills and building some ukes. He spoke with great reverance about luthiers and their skill and artistry. http://www.nerdist.com/2013/03/nerdist-podcast-nick-offerman/

What's he mean, "very bright"? Fat lip city, if you ask me. :o

He means it has more attack like a soprano than a tenor. When I made it, that's what my opinion was. Phil

And then he could pawn it. Or, maybe busk on the same street corner that his aunt worked before she died and left her social security checks to him.:nana:

The unexpected way in which it was given and the unique nature of the instrument makes it a good story to tell for our favorite bum too.

I just saw Bill Macy in "The Lincoln Lawyer" on Prime. He had long hair. Spoiler alert: he got clipped.

He should put Phil's uke in one of his movies--and since he's producing this very one, that'll work, eh, Phil?
