Kauanoeanuhea (Keali'i Reichel)

Beautiful song and beautiful video.

Thanks, after a late season snow here in Minnesota that really help warm thing up!

Nice Jon . . . gotta do mo of these. No get me wrong, da odda stuff is great but local music always hits home. For those interested, here are the lyrics . . .

Kauanoeanuhea
Keali'i Reichel
Code:
Auhea wale ana `oe
E Kauanoeanuhea
Huli au i ke onaona
`A`ole i loa`a mai

[I]Where are you
O cool, fragrant mist?
I search for its sweet fragrance
But it isn't found [/I]

Aia paha `oe i luna
I ka malu o Maunaleo
He wehi no ia uka
Ka uka i Känehoa

[I]Perhaps you are high above
In the shelter of Maunaleo
An adornment of the upland
The upland of Kanehoa [/I]

Na ke ahe a ka Mälie
E hali mai ku`u aloha
He aloha i hi`ipoi `ia
No nä kau a kau

[I]It is the gentle Mälie wind
That will bring my love back
A love so cherished
From season to season[/I]

Eia ho`i ke aloha
No Kauanoeanuhea
He wehi no ia uka
Ka uka o Känehoa

[I]Here indeed is the love
For the cool, fragrant mist
An adornment of the upland
The upland of Kanehoa
[/I]

Thanks, friends! Mahalo, Kanaka, for posting the lyrics and translation!

This is beautiful, John. I was on this road to Hana myself just last December. Your music video puts me right back there. 15 miles per hour. Take it slow! Mahalo again.

Aloha Bruddah John,
Nice and sweet...can you post the full lyrics and chords if you can please....Mahalo Plentee bruddah you can send me in a PM Please :)

Beautiful. That tune now is running around in my head. Can you tell us what key you did it in? The road to Hana is so pretty and your version of the song is too. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, friends! And thanks Kanaka for posting the chords. Shirley, I played it with these chords, but used a capo to raise the key three half steps, so my key was actually Eb.
I played the final line with a minor chord thrown in:

[G7] Ka uka o Kane[F]ho[Fm]a [C]
(but again 3 half steps up)

Okay, I know what a capo is but I've never used one so I must ask, where did you put the capo? What fret? I'm guessing it'd be on the 3rd fret?
Thanks, I'm getting a good education here.

Yes, that's right, third fret. A capo is very useful if you want to raise the key, but you don't want to transpose all those chords on paper or in your head. For this song, I felt the key of Eb was best for my vocal range but the chords in C were easier to play.

I love your rendition--clear voice, rolling cadence; visuals; incredible message in the song; you have inspired me to learn the song to play at any of the future kanis here

This is beautiful.

I am trying to do it with mixing in the English translation, especially since I have no idea how to properly pronounce the Hawaiian words. It'd be pretty cool if I can pull it off.

Wonderful Jon, next time you are in town we really need to play some music!

Thanks, Steel Rider! I'd like to hear your version with English. Mahalo, Pueo! It'd be fun to get together and make some music. Thanks, Hent! I really appreciate it!
