Hello, I just signed up for UU+ to learn theory and the first thing it says to do is to learn the fretboard and I'm having a hard time with it anyone have any advice or tips? Also didn't know if i should put this in the tip and tricks section so if it shouldn't be here someone please tell me if I should move it

Thanks

Practice.,practice,practice no other way

I play piano so I can read music well enough. I wasn't getting very far learning the fret board until I quit looking for the magic pill. Sight reading music while playing is the way to go. Start simple and work your way up, I have a long way to go but after only a few try's I am instinctively reaching for the right fret on the right string when my mind reads the note and voila, I now know some of the fret board, now to move up the neck a bit at a time.

Yo, here's a way to start. Play major chords and start naming the notes on the strings. Then try playing the chord in a different position and name the notes. Then try playing a major, then changei t to a minor, to a seventh, etc. Practice and repeat...........

Thanks for all the great advice. What I found that is helping me is I'm taking on one string at a time and i have pretty much the whole g string in like a day

At the top of the web page, click on BROWSE CHORDS BY KEY and then select a chord. This comprehensive website shows a photo of the hand/finger positioning for your chord, which notes you are fretting, the fingering, chord notes on the fretboard, and what alternative positions available for that particular chord you have selected. Best wishes on your fretboard travels

May I send you a copy of the fretboard explained as being a segement of a guitar fretboard? It has note names for each of the frets. You can see where each note is on each string. When you learn a major chord is made of the 1 -3-5 (CdEfG)and it can be arranged with the 1 on the bottom as a root chord--the 3 on the bottom as a First Inversion, and with the 5 on the bottom as a Second Inversion , you will understand why 0-0-0-3 sound different from 5-4-3-3 or X-7-8-7, yet all are Cmajor chords but have a different sound. Send me a Private Message and I wil send you a copy of it. At the lower edge it also has a conversion scale so you can see wherea note would be found on a ukulele if you were looking at guitar tablature writing.
