hey I'm just wondering if there was a diffrence between solid koa, and curly koa sounding-wise.
Someone told me there was a diffrence between the grain.

IMO, I don't think it's discernible and how it sounds has a lot to do with the build/builder. I'm sure the folks more knowledgeable about tone woods will offer a better explanation than I can.

You should check with MGM and compare prices. A good number of the members here have purchased their instruments from him and will attest to outstanding customer service as well as fast shipping. Did I mention he's also a member?

If your in the San Diego area, I understand there is a few places where you could go try a few out for yourself, that's what I would do for sure. As far as your question it is possible to have two ukuleles built exactly the same yet have a little different tone because of wood density or builder etc..

I played 2 of the Koaloha Sopranos KSM models and there was a BIG difference in the sound between the 2 the dark one had a deeper tone than the lighter colored one.
