View Full Version : Resonance issue?

A good sign that I will need some music theory in the near future...

I think this is resonance. Basically when I play, an even strum, I find my new ukulele (Kanilea K-T, Aquila strings high g) carries a ton of resonance on the C string even though I am in tune. As in, it carries on much longer than other strings. Is it normal, is it abnormal? How do I address it?

Always appreciated,

Is it a wound string?

If you notice, the C string is thicker than the others - it's not unusual for it to have noticeably more volume and sustain. Not all string sets are created equal, and you might well find a set that balances a little better for that uke. (Often, the E and especially C strings are under a little less tension to try to offset balance the volume, and sometimes, depending on the uke, strings under low tension actually have more sustain.)

It's basically just a matter of trying different strings until you find those that you like the best for any given uke.
