I just strung up this ukulele today and am rather pleased with it; I thought I would share some photos here and ask for opinions.

As the thread title suggests, it's made of (lutz) spruce and flamed maple. The spruce came from a wood dealer in canada and it looks and sounds great (I personally like bearclaw). The maple came from Lowes: I happened to pass the board while going there to help my father purchase some construction lumber and thought it would make for some nice looking ukuleles. The binding, neck laminations, and headplate are indian rosewood that were some scrap cutoffs from a guitar side and the fingerboard and bridge are indian rosewood scraps from some resawing I had done a little while ago.

I kept the aesthetics rather simple with a strong influence from romantic guitar builders like Lacote and Stauffer. My 17th birthday is in a few weeks and as a gift to myself I thought I might keep this uke: I'm probably going to sell it though, I'd rather pay for my car insurance than have another uke

I'm not a soprano guy but that looks great! I'll bet it sounds bright as the sun with spruce and maple. ;) you're not even 17 yet?!? Have you considered a career in luthiery? :)

Wow! Gorgeous uke Brian! Gee, you're barely 17 and building stuff like this. Amazing. I wish I was you.

Thanks everyone! My ultimate dream is to have a career in lutherie but I'm not all that sure it's a true possiblity. I'm friendly with many pro builders whom have offered advice (Ervin somogyi, Jason Kostal) and I'd hope to one day rise to their ranks: when I go to college in a year or so I plan on studying both musicology and business as they would help me in lutherie and other career paths I may choose.

I'll try and have some sound clips up soon.

I was 17 when I made my first Guitar. It was all down hill from then on! Nowhere near the standard of yours. In fact it eventually became fuel for a bonfire.
I have a LOT of that Lutz spruce. It's pretty light in weight compared to many spruce types.
