This is a suggestion about the instructional videos. Thank you very much for providing such a helpful tool! But every video has that background drumbeat. This is very distracting and makes it hard to concentrate on what Aldrine is trying to teach us. It is especially bad when Aldrine is demonstrating a rhythm or strum!

Please, please, stop putting the drumbeat in the background!

I find Aldrine's boyish charm and cute smile quite distracting. Can UU find an uglier, less cute instructor?

Deach, you're not applying for Aldrine's job are you?:) (Of course if you were to take over the instructor job, I'd be distracted by your boyish charm and cute smile as well.)

My ugliness would be an equal if not greater distraction.

Actually I had the same feelings with the distracting music in the background but never said anything. Thought it was just my old age kicking in.

I think the perfect solution would be if somehow you and Aldrine could teach the lessons at the same time. Sync the videos up with a split screen-deach in the left speaker, Aldrine in the right. And, for heaven sake, crank up that drum music!!

Aldrine leaving us!?!! :( I'm gonna miss his chunky lessons and vivacious charisma. I'm sure whoever replaces him will do very well as this UU community is ripe with charm.

Long-live the underground!

No, Deach and Ron are joking! :D

If its bothering you it means you're focusing on the beat and not the lesson. If you were focusing on what Aldrine was saying, the beat would be almost inaudible. No offense.

Agreed, Deach. ;). However, I think Aldrine should remain the lesson specialist.

Ha! But that's what I'm saying: I am TRYING to focus on the lesson but the beat is making it difficult for me. No offense taken; people are different. I'm glad you are able to ignore it!

I have been recently working on not focusing on the drum beat by turning off the audio on my computer. But I am having trouble reading Aldrine's lips. I am getting better. I was able to read his lips and body language on his "I'm Yours" lesson!

I never really noticed it until this thread came up......so I watched some of the lessons............and now it's stuck in my head. Thanks a lot. jk haha. I can hardly hear it and I actually had to strain to do so.... Thx for posting this thread though. Although lots of people on this thread don't have a prob with the beat, I'm sure others do. :)

Some of our ears are older than yours. As you get older, it makes focusing on what your listening to harder to hear if there is other noise going on, called ambient noise. Also, many of us have tinnitus from years of listening to loud music, another reason background music can interfere with being able to hear clearly.

I was just thinking about that......But even if I am listening to the background beat, I have to strain to hear it, so I can't really feel your pain. I don't hear the beat if I'm listening to Aldrine, soooo I guess i can't rly help here.... I would actually say "turn up that beat!", but taken that it's bothering someone....

I just watched the Let it Snow lesson and did not hear any conflicting beat in the background during the actual teaching of the chords or picking parts.

I get more distracted by his bedroom. Too much to look at. And as a mom I keep wondering "When is he gonna clean his room?" :D (Please don't take that wrong Aldrine.)

That's the same thing my mom said when I showed her one of the video's. She said "I hope your room won't look like that when you're 20 Lauren."
It always a different mess in every video too. haha. Were supposed to be listening to Aldrine though. Were totally invading his privacy :D

Thanks for the input guys! I know, most of you are referring to the back beat on the Uke Minutes episodes. I was leveling the audio before exporting, but for some reason after the episodes were uploaded to Viddler, the beat somehow got a lot louder. I'm really sorry about that.

I've been working on toning down the back beat better ever since this issue was brought to our attention over a month ago. I know in some of the older episodes the back beat is pretty loud, but my question is -

*For the recent episodes (Uke Minutes 30-33), is the back beat still distracting?

Let us know! THANKS a LOT!!

Not really sure. Aldrine's dreamy hair is too distracting.

Oh! Nice to know you were making an effort! :D Thanks!

Well, #33 still having the drums during the quiet parts when you're supposed to focus on the sound the strings make is what prompted me to post the poll. (Though I totally know how to tune. I watched it anyway just because I watch all your videos.)

I just went and listened to #32 again and see that you did drop out the drumbeat entirely while playing Mary Had A Little Lamb, which is good! Though I'd prefer it to drop out when anything is being demonstrated. All through the early demonstrations on #31 on harmony thirds there's the snare plus what sounds like even bongos and cymbals, though you drop it out when playing the melodies. Which is good!

I guess if there's anything you'd expect people to listen carefully to, that's when I'd expect the drumbeats to fade out entirely.

Edited to add: Wow, I just went back and listened to #29 and it was almost unbearable then, so you really have toned it down a lot already! Still... :P
