I have been given a 5 string banjo with a broken neck and would like to replace the neck with a Tenor uke neck. Does anyone know where I can buy one? Will it work, i.e. is it worth the effort and be playable? I could go to a baritone neck but mainly play tenor.

Mainland sells necks on their site. At a good price to boot!

I think you'd be better off with a banjo neck too. The mounting is entirely different, usually using a dowel stick or a pair of 'control rods" running across the diameter of the pan. You can't attach directly to the rim without distorting the tension on the head.

I'd look for a tenor banjo neck instead. It's four strings, and designed to fit a banjo head.

Thanks everyone for the information. I decided to go with a short scale tenor banjo neck and bought one from Andybanjo in Faversham UK. It is a straight bolt on with no mods. The great thing for me is that it has the same scale length as a baritone uke - I am putting nylgut strings on with a low d. Thanks again.
