I notice that using BSI Finish Cure epoxy to grain fill on necks gives a superb satin finish in its own right (second coat wiped on with a rag and practivally burnished in). Anyone tried this as the final finish?

i have in the past but not with BSI. i used a system 3 product. a pain in the bum to mix the proper amt. by the way.

I know boat builders do it.
II use System 3 epoxy to fill pores. Use a gram scale and pipettes to mix 1 part of resin withh 0.44 part of hardener. Epoxy alone is too soft for a durable topcoat.

I used it on cedar canoes when I built them but I would then put spar varnish on top of that since epoxy doesn't like UVs. I know there is a "bar finish" which is just epoxy that is poured on and buffed out and they look like a layer of glass.

Thanks for the current replies. I know about pore filling and West System so that is not at issue. I am looking for specific responses to using it as a top coat. It dries rock hard and sands into a fine dust... just wondering if anyone has done this. I really like the finish which is applied slightly thinned and wiped dry. I'' do one and show you
