Tenor. It's the only one I've used, but it works well for me.

Concert is my favorite. I suppose it is because the compact size, but, also the re-entrant tuning is pleasant. I love baritone ukulele also, especially when playing with a group of ukulele people. The bari adds some depth to the mix.

I own 11 ukes, all different sizes and shapes including a baritone, a mandolin shaped tenor, a 1925 banjolele and a sopranino. Some are strung gcea and some are strung low Gcea. My favorite is my normal everyday soprano strung gcea. No matter how many ukes I buy, when it comes down to it, a traditionally strung soprano uke is my favorite. (but my baritone strung low Gcea is my second fav.)

That's a very nice uke salukulady. Personally, I prefer concert size. I like that little mix between the higher tone of the soprano & lower tone of the tenor. Its not too big nor too small. Just right for me.

My first love was standard soprano. I just love how it sounds with the whinney hawaiian. I recently got ahold of a hf-3 so now im starting to see the big fuss about tenors.

The concert. Its the only one that I played, and the only one that felt comfortable in my hands.

Whichever one is in currently in my hands. (which would be a soprano or concert depending on which room I'm in or which one is currently at the top of the stack of cases...)

I have a soprano and a tenor, and briefly owned a concert. I'm going with tenor. As a former (albeit terrible) guitar player, it seems to suit me the best.

Sopranos just... fit... for me. Like the sound, like the feel. But I could never just limit myself to one size/shape/material.

I THINK I like concerts best. But I love the sound Jake has with an amped tenor. I am resisting.....

for me it varys depending on the sound i want
the suprano has a sound thats alot less forced it seems and is easier to play
where as my tenor doesnt get as loud and is harder to play
i kinda want to try a concert because that seems like a good mix between the 2
the strings i like and a bit biger body

I like all sizes, I don't have a baritone, so I can't relate to that particular size.....Howie

After playing my concert sized Lanikai, I have come to the conclusion that I prefer the soprano size.

tenors and sopranos, concerts aren't useful to me:rolleyes: i dont know why

i only own a soprano, and a baritone. i'd really like a tenor, but i think the baritone is a great size until then. it's small enough to be easily portable, and not so small that i feel like a giant when i hold it (im pretty tall as it is :0 ).

i think the little guys sound cooler tho :\

I like the sound of smaller ukes. Soprano and concert are my favorites. I don't own a tenor, but I'm leaning towards a super-concert rather than a real tenor as my next uke.

i love playing my concert(her name is alicia) for jamming and practicing.. but i perform with a tenor.. probably because i dont wanna put strap buttons on my concert. it was the first uke i ever owned and it was given to me by a good friend.

it's hard though...cause i want to play some of jakes songs =D...but it doesn't sound super good on the soprano.
but the soprano is soooooo small and the original!

Concert or soprano for me. Concert probably has the edge only slightly though. Don't know the reason but it's definitely the one I reach for first.

Tenor and baritone. I play fingerstyle instrumental (never strum and sing) and the concert and soprano are just too small for me to manage for that. Baritone is an interesting voice for playing with other ukes as well as guitars. The tenor is small enough to comfortably trave with.

I like them all:)

Except I don't have a Baritone and can't really see me with that size.

Remember this though, when you get a good one of either size you will enjoy it no matter what you want to play on it.

i've played on all sizes except baritone.
I prefer tenors, they're comfortable and sits well in my hands. Although i will be transferring over to a concert maybe in a year or 2 to see how that feels.
Maybe i wont like it. I guess ill wait and see

Concerts are my preference, but I can see an advantage of learning Baritone if you like to pick as you can use guitar tabs

I only own two sopranos but i REALLY want a concert as i simply don't have enough frets for a couple of things i want to play now

So far it's the concert. That could be due to the fact that my soprano is a dirt cheap instrument wich I never should've bought to start with. :o

I love my sop, but my U Bass rocks at acoustic sessions with guitar players! I have a baritone coming tomorrow for the Celtic stuff and as an alternate for the U Bass. I love them all!

So that's what I should do with the baritones? Celtic stuff?

mds725

I admit it: I use my baritones to play songs in which I want my ukulele to sound like a guitar. I'm sure baritones are lovely for Celtic stuff, but baritones speak to the wannabe guitarist in me.

It is true...you can play any type of music and sound good...on a uke!!! I am sure the Celtic tunes will sound great on the bari and it already has the inherent keys you need by being in G. The looks I am going to get at THOSE sessions.....:music:

So I click this thread and the first thing I see is Captain Google. My first thought was someone was posting from his account, then I noticed the date. What is up with these ancient threads being brought back to the front page? You guys are going deep into the archives!

Captain Google, you are gone, but not forgotten. RIP.
