Scared myself today

Well was strumming today, got about 10mins into my finger exercises and pop!!! The Aquila Red Low G snapped.. Scared the :spam: right outta me. Almost dropped the uke, gave me a little whip mark across the hand also.

The string was about 3 1/2 months old. Didn't look worn or outta the norm. Well good thing I got extras

Although, Mimmo, the owner of Aquila, knows of this problem and re-formulated the strings a while ago, I think around September of last year. IIRC, there is a batch date on the package. Maybe you had an old formula string?

He also made a YouTube video on how to install them.

I got the new batch (12/2012) and (02/2013) think the string did okay just shocked that it happened while playing. it broke at the 3rd fret so i tossed it up to being old??

Technically, you didn't scare yourself you were scared by the string breaking...which means you were scared by your ukulele...which is just wrong on so many levels... LOL

At least it wasn't a synthetic upright bass string. Someone leaned my bass up against something during a show, nicked the low E's outer wrappings near the nut, and the thing went undwindy-bam in the middle of a session a couple days later. I hate that, especially since those cost $35 a pop.
